I'm trying to get some guys from Upstate Cruisers down into y'all's neck of the woods to help a guy out.

Check out my main thread in the UC forum.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate-cruisers/324116-hamom-father-soldier-killed-iraq.html

I've been talking with James (screen name JamesR on MUD) for quite awhile now. He is trying to fix up a 40 but there is a little more to it than that.

James' son, Josh, was killed in Iraq on Sept 22, 2007 by an IED. James has decided that he wants to fix up Josh's 40 for Josh's son Jackson. Jackson was born only one day before Josh was killed.

James has a blog at Josh and Jackson's FJ-40 but it hasn't been updated in awhile. There are a few pics of the 40 there also. Also look at
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...hello-all.html
for info on the 40.

James has done a good bit of work on the 40 in the past two years and has learned a good bit along the way. Check out
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...cksons-fj.html
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...t-rebuild.html
for some info on what has been done to the 40.

Currently the 40 blows smoke and James thinks its blue. Compression warm and dry is OK - all at 120 or above but one as high as 150 so there is a decent gap between high and low. Carb isn't working correctly either. James has a whole battery of other tests to run that I've suggested. I've got lots of more info too...

I would REALLY like to get a group of UC'rs to head down to see JamesR for a day. I would be willing and probably will make a weekend out of it. He lives outside of Athens GA. James was thinking he was going to have to have the whole motor rebuilt but I think we can save him from that.

JamesR was pretty much good for any weekend in Nov and Dec but with the holidays and my wife's business that might need to get pushed into January, I dunno. I'll donate any parts that I have that we need for the 40. James will supply sodas and pizza while we are there.

What does everyone think?

I would really, really like to roll down to Athens with a strong contingent of so we can show our support. It would mean a lot to me and I know it would to James too.

Very nice thing to do and worthy of investment. As you know we have this little red truck we're working on and have build days scheduled 3 consecutive weekends in a row starting on the 24th, you guys are welcome of course to come hang out. Perhaps JamesR would like to hook up with some of us on a build day or the TOTS event and introduce himself. Where about in the Athens areas is he?

Ted,
I don't think this is a new topic or request for help. The following link may refresh some of the info
https://forum.ih8mud.com/ga-georgia-cruisers/183590-athens-ga-soldier-fj40-killed-iraq.html
Clearly, working on the 62 in the coming weeks is the critical priority due to the dead line (date for the raffle), but this project and request has been out there for ~2 years now so help will be welcome after the raffle too.

I totally understand that the 62 has a deadline (especially with the recent FS decision) and I am not trying to butt in line. James needs some wrenching help but probably even more than that he needs some experienced 40 and F engine owners to help diagnose his problems. He is fairly mechanically inclined but not familiar with these darned old tractor motors.

Steve,

I think your idea is great!! I wish I had the ability to get over to help out. I wanted to bump this up just in case someone might can help out. I'm sure once things get closer to finalization with the raffle that perhaps a weekend can be put together. Be pretty cool (like that thread in the 45 section where everybody pitched in and helped)

Looks like we have over $200 in donations already! Lots of others have offered any parts they have, we have T-s***s being designed which should be done soon, and people starting to mark their calendars so they can help.

What I could use is a handful of people to help organize...

Thanks to everyone again.

ACC should be able to be there. I will check here for details and updates. Let us know if you need us to bring anything special other than ourselves.

Parts needed and donations.

Would anyone be up for a triple dog dare ubber top secret mission??? :grinpimp:

If you have about half a day (maybe a bit more) that you could donate before Jan 15th please PM me. You will get a big dirty, need to have a truck or be able to pull a trailer, and probably will be licked by a dog.

I'll buy you a  and give you a .

Steve--What exactly do you guys need? I'd help out but I'm absolutely buried this week
