What he really needs to do is get his butt back out in the garage and try some of our suggestions, and get the damned thing off. I'm beginning to believe this is just a hoax.

As the saying goes: Pics, or it didn't happen!

Tech troll?
Have not seen that too many times...

I was going to suggest he see if his wifes purse is bigger than his, swing that at it.....

j/k buddy :)

I'm going to the engineering shop tomorrow (I have the day off work) to get a puller made.

Here are some pics of the drum that I did manage to remove:

Brakleen is a solvent, what this man needs in lubrication.
I did try Brakleen, but it didn't work. I also bought a scraper so I can try to dig into the groove between the drum and the hub, will give that a go tomorrow.

No, he needs a penetrate.
Yup.

Haha. I don't have a wife, but a good suggestion anyway :D

How is it this thread started out one way and has now gone into how to penetrate, lubricate, get something off, and someone's wife being mentioned?

Dauntless, you're great for taking all this crap, this thread seemed doomed for a little bit.

:clap::clap: So what was the problem?:beer::beer:

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was it rust/corrosion holding it on?
It had what looked like paper gaskets on the surface. I have been told that they had this from the factory. So I guess the drums have never been off in 28 years, or for some reason the person who worked on the brakes last time actually put those useless gaskets back on. Anyway it looks like that gasket caused a bit of corrosion, etc.

Sounds cost affective to me, A tap is pretty cheap though.
But for 20.00 that's a pretty good price for labor involved.

Congrats for finally beating this one!

Why not? It'll be like $20. I don't have a tap and die set, because they are expensive, and I've never needed one before.

Use occasions like this to justify purchase of tools (in this case a tap, not necessarily the whole tap & die set). Over time you'll amass the tools to make about any repair yourself.

This suggestion has worked great for me; been remodeling the house. Can't do the job without the proper tools and wife agrees. :) So I now have a pretty darn good selection of tools.

Congrats for finally beating this one!
