Need EGR Block Off Plates FZJ80 1997 Landcruiser

I don't have a link for you but if you search some of the 401 threads or even "block off plate" or "removed egr" I bet you'll find some options. Don't think anyone produces them for resale, more commonly made at home for their own use. It's just a piece of sheet metal trimmed to shape and add two holes and some fipg. You should be able to make one easily if determined to go this route.

I'll warn you that it's not "that simple" on a 95+ rig. There's a lot more to it than just removing a connector, putting in a resistor and pulling the EGR stuff.

Also, just getting the EGR pipe off is a bigger challenge than making a block-off plate. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into before you start trying to rip stuff out, otherwise you might be having a very bad experience.

Why?

You floor it the EGR closes. The egr is only open at steady cruise.

There are no performance gains in removing it. Properly working the EGR actually will give you better gas mileage.

What a EGR does is this:
When you are at a steady cruise you do not need the full potential of the engine. It's only taking say 50% of the potential hp to keep you rolling. So what the EGR does is it dilutes the mixture by removing O2 and let's the motor go lean without burning valves because it maintains a stoic fuel/air mix. As soon as you need the power it closes as manifold vacuum drops.

So why are you removing this?

Not only will I clean up the engine bay, it is less components I will have to worry about. Having no ccatalitic converter allows for a free flowing exhaust and cooler temps. I wish to eliminate any and all parts that are not mandatory for operating the vehicle.

Plan on replacing the OBDII fuel injection with a mega squirt. It will never be happy with what you are doing.

EGR does not raise engine temps. It lowers them by reducing cylinder temps when it goes into lean burn. You run the risk of burning valves and pistons without it.
A cat does not raise engine temp. If you get a IR thermometer you will actually see that the temp after the cat is higher then in front of it. Modern cats are very free flowing.
If you are having cooling issues your problem is else were. My fully smog compliant 97 is actually concerning me that it's running too cool I'm concerned the ECM isn't happy and running rich. Modern FI needs to achieve a certain temp to operate correctly so you are not going to make it happy if you do stuff like put anything but stock spec thermostats.

You want to help keep it cool put a bigger transmission cooler on it and then leave it the hell alone if it's not throwing codes.

Like others keep telling you In all these related threads.....you are making more problems then you are going to solve. Fix the EGR and leave it along for then next 15 years till it breaks again.

BUY A DIFFERENT TRUCK

What a crock of s***.

And quit crapping up threads this guy is starting asking a specific tech question like "where can I get EGR block off plates.

Why don't you start a thread where you demonstrate your experience with the 1FZ-FE EGR system removed & the results? I'm betting you have zero experience with a 1FZ-FE with the EGR system removed & zero knowledge of how it's performance was affected.

Okay, in the effort of helping (not that you can't figure this out by searching), the 'proper' value resistor is 7.5K, 1/2 watt.

Robson just hasn't had his coffee yet in the tundra of the Fingerlakes.

;)

:flipoff2:

The FSM states 2K - 97K is an acceptable range, depends on the state of the EGR.

You really do need to read more about this - your questions indicate you haven't spent enough time searching and reading to do this job.

I desmoged a 60 series and used some volvo marine diesel block off plates I picked up at a local boat store. I think they were bronze about 1/4" thk and bought a sheet of gasket.
