LX is always gonna be the smarter thing to buy, better bang for your buck, much easier to find on the used market, and more premium features. If i couldn't get a Land Cruiser, I'd be happy with a LX, I've toyed with the idea numerous times just because i see so many newer low mileage LX's on the market at reasonable prices. But, if i was sitting there with your choice, having the LC be a 2016+, I'd pick that hands down for sure! It sounds like you like to modify, long term your going to be happier with the LC. Suspension, front bumper, all better on LC.
Buy the one that will make you feel good. There are arguments on both sides but being a car or truck enthusiast, a large part of owning a car is emotional. Which one will make you turn back and look at it after you step out and start walking away? Which one do you dream of driving and has more soul?

Dang, you guys aren't making this easy lol Of course there's no wrong choice, but the pros and cons balance out and there's a good argument for both. In my personal camp, the opinion is just as split...one person says LX and the next says LC!
Honestly, either one will make me turn around and look as I'm walking away. I def find both vehicles beautiful in their own right.
Still think I'm leaning LC, I'm also a sucker for the heritage too. But damn...that LX is so nice too. Argh!

I was in a similar situation when I bought my 13 LX. The body styles were closer in those years, the LC had fewer miles but both were pretty close in price and conditions. I definitely wanted AHC AVS because I knew what the System is actually capable of so my choice was easy. The LX looked more updated as well.

Spend some time with the dopey LX mouse controlled infotainment. I have a 13 LX and really like but I had a loaner with the Mouse controlled infotainment and it is infuriating. For me it would be a deal breaker for any LX that had it. Take it for a drive and use the mouse and see what and your wife think. Others don't mind it so much.

LC if into really hardcore stuff. Keep in mind you would have to deal with monkeys at Toyota dealers if LC.

I was in the same boat. I actually could have saved a good bit of money by getting a Comparable LX but I knew I wanted to do a lift and a few mods. Decided to stay with the LC because of the aftermarket support and not having to deal with the AHC stuff.
