Having a bigger tank is where it’s at. I love the 67 gallon I installed in my f450. I still have diesel from when I fueled up to go to GSMTR. Definitely I great upgrade.

Hit a milestone going to pick the girls up. Once again I feel Apple has screwed me over with a sluggish IPhone because I refuse to upgrade to a bigger phone. Tried to film the rollover But the phone froze.

Not a super convenient location for actually using the nav while driving, but pretty dang neat! I've never seen that before.

It’s the classic “good outweighs the bad” situation. Phone integration with CarPlay, Waze running, proper backup camera will make a nice improvement to my seat time.

It easier to reach but definitely have to glance down. Not any worse than a 80s and early 90s Toyota mini trucks and 4Runners.

Well I’m shutting it down for the night.

Removed the 2F mounts and mocked the 5.3 in place with the 6l90 bolted up. Hope to get Matts motor mounts welded up tomorrow.
IMG_8287.jpeg

Looks so small compared to the 2F.

great progress! Maybe it will fill out when you get the radiator, hoses, etc in there? But either way, plenty of room to get in there when you need to turn wrenches in the future.

Dang dude.

Excellent work!!
this is going to be awesome

Motor mounts tacked into place yesterday and removed the 60 crossmember mounts welded to the frame today. Can’t brag on @cruisermatt enough. Not only did he design and bring something to market for these old trucks, but the support that comes with supporting him is next to none. After a quick conversation with him, I knew exactly where to place the mounts.

The motor is back out on the stand for the next few days. In between the multiple field trips my girls graciously committed me too, lots of boring much needed sorting through the 60 harness eliminating what’s not needed and simplifying the engine bay.

Homeschooling… Weather implemented a elearning day so I introduced thermodynamics and torque basics 101. Also worked on sharing, they like the torch.

Picked up heads from the machine shop yesterday and the DOD delete will be here today. Seems like the rainy weekend will be a good time to get the motor sorted

Looks like y’all are gonna get some weather. Stay safe ONSC and Upstate.

DOD completed last weekend. Used a kit from Texas speed that included GM head bolts, a new GM cam and associated gaskets.

The corvette manifolds I had to use fit to tight with the OE mounts from Cruiser Matt. I ordered a set of cast manifolds that dump toward the rear designed for LS swaps.

IMG_8345.jpeg

Bolted the 6l90 up and test fit it on the mounts before I welded them in. It was a good call, I ended up moving them forward about an inch.

The clearance around the engine is fantastic.

Kids fall break was last week. They had other plans and it wasn’t working in the 60. Nonetheless I ended up Sorting through the 60 harness, Welding in the engine mounts, and getting the driveline completely
assembled, and everything torqued.

The Advance Adapter kit works well but the directions are awful. I ordered a twin stick kit for the case and advance put all the hardware in one bag. I wasted a day sorting bolts trying to figure out which bolts go where. Also the 6l90 output shaft has to be trimmed. My shaft measured a different length than what is in the document. It took some time measuring to figure out where to cut exactly. If anyone else is going through this, PM me and I can help.

My Front driveshaft is gonna be tight, there is going to have to be some creative trimming and a smaller flange needed.

Those manifolds in the last pic are what you want - the best fitment I have found by far. You'll want to do a 180 out of the passenger side and loop it around the front of the oil pan and have the two merge on the driver's side around the bellhousing area

AA sells a smaller flange and yoke for the front T-case output. I can get you hooked up with one

I also have a design for a T-case pivot bracket for the 6l80 that should land the pivot in the OE-ish location. Hit me up during the work week and we can get the ball rolling on that if you're interested

Definitely interested, I’m getting down to the short list. Sorted through the 60 harness last week and routed the Holley harness, If everything goes right I think I’ll be able to crank it this weekend.

Since I’m using an 83 body the firewall has 3 holes where the AC line pass through. I open up an unused hole to 2” and used a spare firewall grommet from my old 86 body. This gives a direct pass through between the ac core and blower motor

I feel like I’m in that last 10% that takes the longest. Just before you sit back and appreciate when a plan comes together.

Getting my thoughts down…..

  • Rear driveshaft was measured and taken to a local shop to have shortened to 39”. Will be ready Monday. For the front TC output I’m waiting on the smaller flange from advance to run a 2” tube. This should give me needed clearance for the front shaft.
  • Cooling system is routed. Used Camaro Heater hoses, lower radiator hose for an Explorer with a 5.0 and an upper Silverado hose trimmed to fit.
    IMG_8534.jpeg
  • Noticed the aluminum radiator I installed a few ago has some seepage. Decided to go through Mosley for one of their LS 60/62Radiators. It will simplify my coolant hoses, take care of my fan shroud and provide a solution for transmission cooling. Pricy but my time has more value these days. It’s about 2 weeks out. The leak isn’t fast enough, so I’ll be able to crank with my current radiator till it arrives.
  • With the rear crossmember I decided to notch it and reuse the 60 crossmember. Where it lines up with the transmission mount, the crossmember is the exact width of the frame. Not sure if this is a permanent solution but it will get me rolling.
  • Speedhut gauges are enroute. I figure another week out.
  • Yesterday I put the battery back in and connected power, ran starter wire, turned on the Holley. I was able to run the set up wizard. I went though and input my details. Didn’t attempt crank yet but it seems my wiring is done. It saw the TCM and other sensors needed. Im running the drive by wire harness, when I ran the separate TPS set up and it didn’t see a variance in voltage at the pedal. I need to go back and ohm the harness and check voltage to rule out the simple first. Adding the diagram for future reference
    IMG_8532.jpeg
  • I lowered the truck down about 3.5” in the front. Moved the rear shackle mounts to in the frame. Im not happy with my shackle angle so I'm going to move the front spring mount forward and French it. Shockmounts and shocks TBD. Thinking something adjustable like the Icons I ran on my previous 80.
    IMG_8468.jpeg
  • Fuel system is a Denso pump for 200 series LC. For the float, a 11” floatless fuel sender from Tanks.com. With the long range tank this will give me right at an Inch of fuel at empty.
  • Shifter is from Speartech. Included a new OE shifter with tap shift, correct cable and brackets. I saw a LS3 conversion in a Defender where they built a custom console with cup holders. It got my wheels turning on what could be in a console.

The smaller transfer case flange arrived from AA. Part# 716369
Couldn't have fit any better. Flange is 1"smaller. Grinding for clearance is still tbd, but it looks like I may not have to.

Bolted up my modified 60 Crossmember. Played around last week with a few ideas and creating something completely new but liked the idea of the using the factory 60 crossmember best. The width was perfect. With some trimming, creative notching and plating with 1/4" I came up with something Im happy with. The trans mount bolts to crossmember and keeps an OEM look to it with a little extra beef.

Also removed the factory mounts cleanly so they'll get moved to inside of the frame to give 4 bolts on each side like oe.

Received my gen4/5 pedal yesterday from PSI Conversion. Reran the TPS wizard this morning and everything passed. It's ready to crank on the electrical side.

I made up some transmission cooler lines and realized I forgot to order the 6l90 adaptor plate to AN6 fittings. Amazon for the win, It will be here tomorrow.

Hopefully this weekend, my driveway with sound like pit row on Talledega weekend.

Kids activities took priority this weekend. Was volen-told I was running the hayride at the kids school for their elementary school fall festival so I lost my Saturday. I did manage to spend some time this afternoon, doing a compression test and get my gas pedal mounted.

All cylinders passed within 10%. Really happy with these numbers, I heard the engine run before but had no Idea what the compression was.

@cruisermatt care package arrived yesterday. I used one of his LS 60/62 gas pedal brackets to mount my GEN4 LS2/LS3 pedal. As always fit and finish is fantastic and put the pedal exactly where it needs to be. I added a couple of M8 rivnuts and attached the pedal with some left over oe hardware. Absolutely worth the $50 and looks better and anything I would of fabbed up.

Did you miss the replacement pedal?
I have a few FJ62 brake pedals kicking around too. :)
