Congrats dude.

After the 100 sells my next cruiser will either be an 80 again or i'll import a 105 which is on my mind. I need a trip down under to see some cousins in 2022

Thanks everybody, excited to build up a dedicated truck I don’t have to drive on Monday if the weekend activities get out of hand. It’s been about 7 years since my last dedicated build.

Spent the past few days working on removing the Bed liner. I noticed some compressed air started taking it off, I then got out the pressure washer and removed 98% of it.

Thankfully the PO did zero prep work. Except for a few little spots it all came off. A few min with the rotary buffer shined the rear quarter up nicely.

New shoes! Got a killer deal on practically new 315 Maxis M/T already mounted.

With the beautiful weather yesterday here in Chapel Hill me and Isla took the 80 out around the farm to stretch its legs.

4 is about the age I started driving in the pasture so I figured it’s time for Isla to start learning. Parenting is challenging but these few moments make everything worth it.

The lockers worked flawlessly. Only added to the Beautiful views

I am peanut butter and jealous. Awesome truck!

Been tinkering on ther truck on and off but have neglected to keep up with the new thread.

On 1/28/19 the weather was nice so I welded up the holes in the rear lift gate. The silicon made me nervous thinking it could potentially trap water.

Hats off to the ones that can weld sheet metal with out a backing plate. I have a copper one I use when I can get access to behind. Took a few min to dial in the heat and speed but everything worked out.

Im pretty happy with how it turned out. I can’t see any imperfections from the ground. Painted it with a black primer so it doesn’t stand out. I plan on painting it, but its more of a 5yr plan currently.

I told Isla to name it. Im curious what the interworkings of a 4 year old mind will come up with. Stay tuned.
Princess Twilight Sparkle it is then.

I've been slacking on updates since purchase. As of today I've put about 3k on the 80 and have really been enjoying it. The more I drive it the more Im glad Im back in an 80.

Nothing Sexy but needed Maintenance/Service I've done in the last month...
  • Changed the oil, 5w-30 w/Toyota filter
  • Drained Transmission fluid in pan and replaced with new fluid.
  • Changed diff fluid F/R and t-case w 80w-90
  • 2.18.19 Replaced the SS with an Aussie RTC Style
  • 2.20.19 . Replaced F/R panhard bars with Adjustable style
  • New greasable poly Sway Bar Bushings F/R
  • Installed the rear missing sway bar
  • 2864 Rear coils installed.
  • Mounted my $40 ARB Roof rack.
With the 3rd row, we've been using it as Toyota intended for the US market. Last week, for the first time we ventured out as a family of 5 in the 80. Somebody wasn't happy about getting stuck in 3rd row.

Pulled the 80 in today and parked it until further notice to take care of some issues.

Several things to address but the major issue is the HF2AV F/R output seals are leaking so bad, I can smell it burning on the exhaust when I park. Im afraid I'm gonna run it dry at the worst time possible. Plan Is to rebuild/install a spare HF2A case and rear drive shaft out of a 99 100. The case is a few inches shorter due to the no VC. Heres the Before and the last time you'll see it look like this.

I’ve pulled all the exterior bolts to have them blasted, zinc coated, and a yellow chromate dip.
Here’s a sneak peak of what the rest of the case should look like.

Recently when I reassemble something, just having it clean isn’t good enough anymore. Ive been researching zinc plating my own bolts and learning how. This will give me the ability to refurbish any area I’m working on. Did a test sample on some random rusty bolts I had for prep for the t-case hardware. Haven’t done the cromate dip but I’m happy with how they turned out. It’s all about the details right?

How did that seat gear work out?

Took the 80 to the Outerbanks Friday afternoon as a family of 5. Brit mentioned the idea around lunch so I wrapped up a few on the list and hit we the road about 5. Truck did awesome heading down the hwy at 70. Feels super stable on the hwy and except for the tire noise I can’t tell it’s pulling 35’s. At 70mph I’m running about 2200rpm. Not knowing the previous history, I’m wondering if it has gears. Can anyone with an 80 on 315’s and stock gears tell me what your rpm is at vs 4.88’s

Saturday we headed up to Corolla for a beach day for the girls and exploring for dad. All in all it was a successful day for everyone. I got to engage the lockers just because I could and the girls got to build sand castles.

After riding around a little bit I could do a entire thread on the interesting vehicles of OBX.

This morning we headed down to Hatteras Island. I wanted to see the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum for sometime now. Even though it was closed it gave me a reason for more exploring, appreciating the small beach towns along the way stuck in time somewhat.

I filled up in Buxton and made it all the way home on one tank of fuel! 282 miles. Yep you read that right. 282 miles confirmed, by gps, on one tank in an 80.
