I was able to spend the weekend camping at the ONSC event “Carolina Relic Run.”

I’ve put about 5k on the 80 this year but this was the first time to get out and actually wheel it. The 80 did awesome until my day was cut short because of a leaking power steering hose. After a good cleaning it turns out one if the compression clamps had failed and the hose had hardened. They look original so some new hoses and clamps and I’ll be good as new.

As all of these events are, it’s a great time seeing everyone and watching my kids get to be kids away from tech. I think my oldest looks forward more to it than I do.

It was great meeting you and the girls this weekend and hitting the trails with you. Your 80 took everything with ease. I'm glad you got the power steering issue sorted out.

Pulled the valve cover to replace the gasket, clean the throttle body and a few other misc items to check off the list.

I was pleasantly surprised at the condition underneath.

The body had 270k when I bought the 80. I was told it had a new engine sourced from Japan. No documentation, or when it was replaced so I’m not sure how much I believe it. The valve cover does give me some hope that it may have some truth. At least a possible rebuild.

Compression tested cold, all cylinders above 157psi.

Lets play a game.... your in a head lamp, it’s 12:12am, kids are finally asleep, honey do’s are done...and you’re putting the valve cover back on your 80 after you have replaced the gasket, PCV, tube seals, cleaned the throttle body, replaced vacuum lines and .... you slip in your flip flops off the lug of your MT tire. What’s it called?

Also wrapped the main harness in gold heat reflective tape. Since the gold reflective heat tape in the engine bay, and Gold exterior package, the 80 has named itself “Goldmember.” The Austin Powers theme seems to be appropriate.

Yeaaaah Baby!

Going to head up to Virginia in 2 weeks to explore for about 5 days. Hoping the weather is still cooler at elevation.

Looks great. Details?
Just north of Mt Rogers and then went backroads west into Tennessee. Camping was perfect For anyone with small kids. We hiked to a little over 5000ft and found the ponies grazing. If anyone is interested let me know.

I've hiked around Mt Rogers, mostly on bits of the AT. Would love the details for your trip as it'd be great with the kids.

The power steering had gotten so bad I’ve pretty much had it parked since the trip to Va. Other cruisers have kept my interest but I finally got around to disassembly. The collection of parts for my PS is going to finally get used.

Started by removing the pump for rebuild And removing the paper clip for the new aluminum cooler. Mounted the cooler using nut rivet and held in place with m6 oem hardware.

Was advised against using aluminum fittings on the PS system, so I used the aluminum for mock up until the steel ones come in.

PS Pump rebuild using the kit from Toyota.

Finished off the install with an alignment, rotation and balance. Tech claimed the passenger is seized so something else to attend to.

The lifetime alignment at Firestone has paid for itself. It’s always way out.

  • Sound deadening in the doors.

  • Removed the leaky AN fittings with stainless braided and replaced with 90 degree fittings with rubber hose. The stainless is pretty but a pain to work with.

A few months ago I was trying to chromate and zinc plate at home. It’s time consuming and I couldn’t get it to where I was happy. The projects got put on the back burner.

While Cleaning up for the move I sent all my extra nuts bolts and other random misc hardware from different projects for chromate. Thanks to @S4Cruiser for the tip. Super excited to get this done to motivate me when I get set up in the coming weeks

Pretty sure I’m the first to have gold lugnuts on an 80.

I dunno... @NLXTACY has blinged-out a lot of things.

You've gone and done all those, now you have to do everything. We'll be waiting for photos of the plated frame. :)

Those look really good! Which place did you end up using?

The shipper came to pick up the 62 today. After some chit chat, He made the comment “ I should just take yours since there going to the same place.” He gave me a price I couldn’t turn down.
