Solder diode in place.

Now remove top cover around switch to access the circlip that holds the switch in place, and remove it.

Carefully remove switch.

Using a set of nips, trim around 1/2 of the ears off the front of the switch.

Reassemble everything back together.

Congratulations, you now have to working auto up function. It works perfectly.

Total installation time: 20 minutes
Installation cost: ~$3.00
 
Next project was fixing my broken seat mechanism in the passengers side front seat. This is a very common issue in 80 Series, and my research led me to buy a new set of gears from Gimiviti. A little pricey at $20 a seat, but...

Start by removing the four 14mm bolts holding the seat in place. Before you go any further, ensure seat bottom is in the uppermost position. This will allow access to the two Phillips head screws that hold the front trim section in place.
Don’t forget to disconnect the lead from the seat to the floor harness.

Remove seat.

Here are those two bolts I was referring to. Take them out, and remove this piece of trim.

Remove entire mechanism.

I found my problem. As you can see, the end cap came off of the end of the worm gear spindle. This allowed the gears to not properly mesh.

New cap in hand.

Using a flathead screwdriver. Thread the cap back on, making sure to not thread too tightly, as it can bind the worm gear spindle. As a preventative measure to ensure my cap did not come off again, I drilled a small hole through the side of the housing, and into the cap itself.

I then used a small screw to hold both pieces together.

I then reasssmbled. Sure enough, I’ve now got a working seat mechanism again. Woohoo.

Had to replace the driver’s side window channel, as there was a 4” section missing from it thanks to the PO. I’ve no idea why he didn’t replace it.

Removed glass.

Replaced run, And zipped everything back together. No more wind noise on the interstate.

All kidding aside, I had been driving other stuff for quite a while, and when I got back in my 80 a week or so ago, I was reminded of just how great these trucks drive..........EXCEPT for power! They just s c r e a m for a V8!

In discussions now with a mad skiller or two to see if an A to Z production plan can be somewhat easily established for a 2UZ / a343F conversion. There are more and more of those out there these days, and many believe that combination creates, arguably, the best Land Cruiser Toyota never made. While many people like the idea of a GM swap, a BUNCH more people like the idea of a swap that keeps their Toyota all-Toyota
 
I was driving on the interstate the other day, and needed to pass someone. I figured I’d give it a bit of gas and overtake them. Imagine the surprise I got when I went to give it gas, and realized that it was already pretty much floored before I could push my foot any further. Truly, power is the only complaint I have about it.

I’ll vote 2UZ swap all day long if it’s on the table. A Slee swap will add resale value to that truck...the savings of doing the swap in your garage will increase the down-the-line profit margins that much more.

If a 2UZ is off the table...re-gear.
 
No swaps. Not for this nice truck. Maybe another 80 though...
