Because @G-Cat keeps hassling me, I’ll start a thread to document what I do.
It’s a 1997 factory e-locked White (045) Collector’s Edition with Oak (tan) interior.
First, this truck was originally sold in Arizona, and spent nearly its whole life there. After two owners in AZ, it was purchased by the PO, who lives in North Carolina. He had it a relatively short time (a year or so). He had spent several years looking for a clean white Collector’s Edition, when he found it. He had several other cruisers, and with the recent purchase of a 40 series, his wife told him one of them had to go.
It’s clean. Like really REALLY clean. Zero rust. Interior is pristine, besides a worn steering wheel and shifter. Front seats look to have been recovered, and DS floormat has a wear spot. No other stains, rips, tears, odors. Nothing.
Carfax shows 4 pages of complete maintenance history. Lots and lots of preventative and regular maintenance. No red flags.
Underside is rust free. Not a drop of oil, fluids, grease, ANYWHERE. Amazing. RTV is present on all seals with new gaskets, so safe to assume all potential leak points have been serviced. New radiator and hoses, new heater valve, EGR is heat wrapped. Everything is done.
Truck has 200k miles. Engine runs smoothly with no drivetrain noise. Shifts smoothly. Brakes smoothly.
No real plans for this truck. I want to fix all the little things that aren’t working properly, and want to replace/restore things to bring it back to its former glory.
I do want to get a lift on it; nothing big—maybe 2-3 inches, and some larger tires (34”-35”).
I realize that 80 series are increasing in value, and I am also aware that the closer to stock they are, the more value they retain. Therefore, any mod I do, I plan on making sure it can be reversed. No drilling, cutting, grinding, etc.
