I'm from Haughton Louisiana, right outside of Bossier City. The only thing I miss is the fishing-- trout just isn't a very good eatin' fish to me. I'm all about the catfish, bass, and crappie.

It does get cold here, but yeah... Once it's below 15 or 20-- who's counting? I will say one thing though, if your family are more of the "townie" type, they probably won't like woodland park. There is t much to do here. We do have a small movie theater, but not much for shopping and restaurants. The Chinese place ain't bad, but we have three Mexican restaurants and the Taco Bell is better than all three of them. There are three new craft beer shops open, so at least we're getting a little counter culture.

You're from LA? What part?
I'm originally from St. Louis MO. Moved to Houston area 10 years ago. Moved to Austin a year ago. I never intended on growing old here. Texas really isn't my "thing".
I'm ready to get back into some seasons instead of hot and hotter!

I went to college in St. Louis and my wife was born and raised in south county. We'll have to sit around, drink some Anheuser Busch products and talk about the Cardinals when you get to town.

Yeah, but...

I've been a suburb kid my entire life. Austin is the closest I've been to "urban" living. I'm about 7 miles south of the capital building.
That being said... The older i get the more I dislike the city and want to be in the country. We don't really go out much anymore so i'm fine w/ a quite town and chilling at home these days.
I figure Woodland Park is close enough that if i needed "city stuff" I can drive there.

Right on! I'm actually from St. Charles.
Where did you go to College at?
As far as the AB products........ I'll pass on that, and down some CO micros instead. I'll be more that happy to talk Cardinals any time! That is my team!

You can also check out csu.org for jobs. There is a lot of construction going on for SDS so there are likely a lot of as builts being drawn up and MWH is the project management contractor. Good luck.

There are a few places in the Springs that don't feel like you are in the Springs if that makes sense and is what you are looking for.

Lived in STL in the late 90's early 2000's and got my undergraduate degree from UMSL. Then moved to Columbia and got my master's degree at Mizzou. We lived there until we moved out here. Still have a lot of family in MO and go back to visit several times a year. And yeah, love the Cards.

You know...people always rag on Pueblo, but I like it down here. Its 45 minutes from the Springs...I live in Pueblo West, have over an acre, mountain views, quick access to US 50 highway, and the cost of living here is a nice kept secret (about as low as you can get for CO). The town has really done a lot to clean itself up in the past few years, nice shops, restaurants, a nice river walk, and plenty of activities. As far as jobs...may not be as many around as Colorado Springs...I don't know if Vestas or the chemical depot have anything up your ally, but they may be worth taking a look at. I know they are planning on building a solar farm out here too, which may have jobs coming up as well. Just sayin...don't rule out someplace like Pueblo! (very little snow in the winter, does get windy and hot during the summer but its a dry heat, did I mention cost of living being a bit lower???)

Ha! Is it cheaper down there? I've got two buddies that live there.
Not sure the wife will go for it though.
She's never lived anywhere but Houston till I got her to Austin.
She wants to experience snow. Same w/ my daughter. Believe it or not my 11 year old has only seen snow once maybe twice her entire life. The wife's in the same boat. It's very odd to me. A lot of my friends here have only seen snow on TV! Crazy! Texans don't like to leave Texas.

Haha!!
Here in Austin I see plates from Colorado, Washington and California the most. The majority is Cali and they are taking over!! Something like 150ish people a day move to Austin. Being in inplant myself I'm ready to get out before it gets worse.

Question:
How's the job market up there? I imagine it's flooded w/ people there.
Anyone work in Civil Engineering? I do drafting work. Can do almost everything CAD wise, but strongest in the civil field.
My wife is in accounting/collections for a software company.

I'm a M.E. I don't think that the company I work for employs any civil engineers, but I can ask if we need any. I think RMG may be one of the larger civil employers here.

I have a Super Duty that I tow with if the trail is farther away than I'd like to drive my slow cruiser. A lot of people trailer their rigs in Colorado. I'm sure you'd be asking for trouble if you left your tow rig over night, but for the most part, most trails have large trailheads, and plenty of folks leave their trucks and trailers there without issue.

Right on. I've been towing w/ the idea of going back to a DD/wheeler rig. Seems like it might be a hassle to mess w/ a tow rig and trailer since a lot of the trails a around there seem to be able to be done in one day.

There are a lot of guys with tow rigs out here, but most of us CLCers drive to the trailhead, air down, run the trail, air back up and drive home.

But there again, most aren't running 37's...

Yes. And with 37's, you'll probably end up wanting to run some of the more extreme trails. In that case, it'd be beneficial to trailer your rig if you might break. I like to beat on my rig, but haven't broken yet (knock on wood)

Yes and if you going to take your rig with 37's on our extreme trails, then you probably don't want something as nice as that runner. :D

True. It is a sick 4runner.
I like the extreme stuff!
I did the DD/wheeling rig for a long time and wheeled the heck out of it. I've just been wondering about trail rides like say Black Bear pass. It's one way right? So I'd have to take hwy back to my tow rig or is there another trail you can take back over the mountain? Just trying to gauge how much hwy time my rig might see up there. If it's a lot. My as well get a built 3rd gen w/ a supercharger v6 on the mountain highways.
