I been wanting a cab chassis for a while ,mainly for long expedition trips.

I saw this gem in the classifieds today ,went with a pile of cash,and come home with a 95 HZJ75 CAB CHASSIS with 190000 klms no rust and everything working with 40 channel CB.

I love it ,it drives like new ( 2 private owners) and the air cons cold ,just in time for summer.

Previous owner just got married,has a kid on the way and his wife wants a family car:D
The owner was pretty depressed about selling it and when I was driving him back to his work he told me about all the camping trips he has been on with his father and brother all squeezed in the front of the cab.

Of course its got the subtanks ,low oil sensor,disc brakes all round and the OEM fuel filter and water trap.
I also got 2 new 31 in spares (BFG clones) and 4 splitties with Dunlop Grippers(OEM for this model)
Its also got new rear springs and shocks,new rear mud guards on the tray as a flat tyre ripped the old ones off at 100klms.
Has all the the owners manuals and factory tool kit all stacked away in its slot.
The bullbar is an ARB commercial bar I think.

My old 73 is staying for the time being:D

and a couple more. The rear tray on these is a massive expanse of usable space;)
Engine bay is also nice and tidy,sound like im selling it dont I?:D:D:D

I got a VULVA too but I love driving it as long as I get a cruiser fix thrice weekly:D

The tray is 8ft long and 6ft wide or 2.4mx1.8m.I wanted to be able to sleep in the back and let everyone else put up tents in the wind;)
Less spiders and snakes up there too which is a good way to get women to share it with you;):D

That is awsome! I love the look of it with the soft top. I'll be using that tray design and soft top design as well. If you get a chance can you post some pics of the tray in a bit more detail?

No problems, Im going to pull the canvas off very soon to have a zip repaired ,you know what they say about a stitch in time and I will defintely take some more pics.
If I see a tray removed I will post some pics as it difficult to see the construction when they are mounted.

Im also planning on putting a rear facing seat on the LH side and I will use a the front 1 1/2 seat from the front of a another 75 and use the leftover space on the RH side for a fridge cage(they get stolen reguarly round here:mad: )

I want to build a roll cage over the top of the seat and mount some lap sash belts for safety.
Im going to try and copy how some of the underground mines do it as theirs has engineering approved.
That should leave about 6ft for my inflateable mattress:D

You are lucky you live in Oz.
So easy to find a nice cruiser, and for probably a lot lower prices.
When I got my first cruiser, I had looked every day (10 times a day) for 3 months. When I found it, I drove 1300KM's (round trip) the next day to look at it.
They guy got dozens of calls just from an add in his local paper. Calls from all over western Canada. See what we have to compete with for a good not rusty cruiser! And you get to watch the papers and wonder over to look at something that is a good deal. Lucky. :)

But seriously, nice truck!

Your more than welcome too. And don't worry Stone, you will get another one. My friends think I am nuts that I spend so much for a 1988. It's only 2 years older than my 81, but it just looks it age more. I keep telling them its a landcruiser. Somehow I think, they think I should of gotten a 2000 4runner. There perspectivw will change when I get the 'I am stuck 35Km up XYZ road...." :) :D

Yah I see that too.. Cool! Must be when the filter get dirty enough and the engine pulls harder for the air the vacuum is higher and the switch gets trip'd to light up on the dash.,..?? Sound right Rosco...

Its a very fancy filter warning device. I seen some simple ones that use a coloured band on the the powerstrokes. But you gotta look under the hood to see it.

Rosco - nice rig, I used to own an older one a few years back (older 2H) with canvas back they are great for camping (plenty of room to stretch the legs) - the only down fall they are a little small within the cabs - have you parted ways with the middy?

Its amazing - these sorts of traytops are everywhere in Australia - but through this forum I am now undrestanding they are quite scarce in some countries.

As BB says it detects vacuum. It must be an oz thing as my older 1988 73 series has it to but its hidden down lower.
EDIT I looked back through some pics and all the aussie 70 and 60 series have one;)

Thanks Wayne. A lot of aussies find it hard to believe we are one of the few countries that get diesel cab chassis.
I guess we have Sir Reginald Thiess to thank for that;)

It still hard to find nice ones. Half of those on the market have seen life in the outback either with the govt or mining.
The city ones are usually owned by plumbers electricians or builders who keep them until they have 350000klm.

The great thing about 75 series cab chassis is that the body parts are largely replaceable with OEM or aftermarket steel or f/g panels.
And of course there are extended cabs and dual cabs that are a bolt on,both in glass or steel;)

We also have a few panel shops that specialise in rebuilding these. They can do a fairly extensive job at a reasonable price because the bodies come apart so easy.

Yes Tapage12v ,all Australian Landcruiser as well as Patrol,Landrover and Mitsubishi are factory 12v.
However there i still a lot of 24v JDM vehicles here so the parts shops sell the electrical parts to keep them going.

DB,A camper is high on my list of priorities. There is a local company that makes a slide on/off camper especially for a 75 and is designed to withstand heavy offroad use.
I like these as you can leave it behind when you want to wheeling on a camping trip.
Turbo is unlikely ,I want to keep it totally reliable and where I want to go a turbo is not needed.

I did my early morning cold start yesterday,16c brrr :D.
It glowed for 3 seconds and started immediately with no smoke except for the customary half second flash of whitish smoke.
Im am confused,the PO says he never had the pump or injectors serviced since he bought it in 99 and he has done 130000klms since then,so it should be making smoke.

Maybe he is one of those who dumps it at a mechanic and says"fix it" without taking an interest in the details and along the way it was done and he just paid up.
It does seem well maintained with new oil and filter although the reusable air filter gets the toss this morning.
Front axle doesnt look too bad,probably done in the last year or so.certainly no oil leaking out.
Usually on a used cruiser its the 1st thing that needs doing.

Definately no leaks of any kind underneath. I half expected to find out it had all been wiped down just before I viewed it but its still 100%dry under there this morning after doing 200 klms

I replaced all the running lights yesterday,it had some blown globes and others were of mixed intensity.

I filled it up with $200 or 160 litres of 20% bio diesel last night. Its the 1st time Ive used it.
Only problem with Biodiesel is they use much finer filters at the bowser.
According to the kid at the checkout,the filters are due to be changed and it has slowed the pumps down so much it took 10 mins to fill up.
Of course ,the filters are working fine the kid told me,but how the fawk would he know:rolleyes:
The subtanks seem to be working ,well they switch on anyway according to the gauges:D

Im recording the fuel use this week so Ill be interested to see how it compares to the 1HZ in the 73.

Yes Im still on a cruiser honeymoon:D:D:D
