So it's been quite some time since I was last here, but I'm finally back with my newly purchased 76 FJ40. I think it is pretty nice and as stock as I can find especially in my price range <$5K. I always said my next FJ40, I would just spend a lot on it from someone who had restored it for me. But I finally gave up on that dream with the sky rocketing prices of old FJs(good or bad condition)
Then I started getting the itch a few weeks back and stumbled on the perfect sale on craigslist. Older fella, retired "already has a newer jeep so he doesn't need 2 jeeps". It's not like he didn't know what he had, he just told me he didn't feel right listing it for +$10K like all the rest out there, in much worse shape, because it just was not fair. So after sitting on craigslist for 2+ weeks I found it and it just so happens it was still available. I didn't pull the trigger until the next morning and nearly let someone else swoop in the next morning and buy it out from under me. Luckily the guy held it for me, I gave him $4800, and I just got it home yesterday.
Mostly stock. Still runs. Has 122,500 original miles. He was the third owner and had owned it since '84. Even the title was old I didn't recognize it as a title as it was much smaller. It had a soft top on it when he bought it and he ended up trading it for a hard top thus the wrong color hard top.
I don't plan to do too much to it initially, other then to just clean it up and make it run smooth as I can. I'm no master mechanic but I can change the oil and fluids, plugs, etc. Then little by little start making some fixes probably first are the seats and weather stripping.
So here she is...
