Nomad Black Friday wheels, really good price. Cooper AT3 tires too (32x11.5 15r). Looks really stout and not as tall as my 74 with 235x85 16’s

Woah now, you ride with me and I'm a literal chimpanzee.

I would have killed for a 40 as my first car.

You're not wrong. 🤣

Any classic car though will have abysmal safety compared to anything 2025. I'd get her something like your Volvo. That's a war wagon.

Cool. My daughter stole mine. I wish I kept all my spare parts to build a second rig all I needed was a 3/4 tub and I could of built a complete truck 350 4spd though , but I sold off all my spare stuff when my daughter was 8. Needed the cash.
now she just steals my rig. Have fun with your daughter.

thats awesome, great looking rig too. I dont plan on going as tall, not many places around here to go off road so it will be a cool mall crawler.

Two dings, and I think I know how they joined (and covered it up) the A and B pillar. It will require some work, but from what I have seen these are small in comparison to previous topnault tubs.
Hopefully everything lined up, I need to get it up on the frame to check alignment of body mount anchors. If everything goes well, it will head out to get paint.

Be curious to see how the topnault mounts for you and hoping for good things. They have recently posted to social media regarding that they updated the tub designs with a focus on “quality”. Previous Mudders have posted some horror stories over the last year with the prior design of mounts being way off and lots of fabrication being needed to make it all work. Hope it’s straight forward for you and everything bolts up relatively easy!

I will surely post updates, this was my concern too. This explains why it took from September till Christmas eve for it to arrive. Most of what I have seen for issues are not found in mine. They only seem sealed the exterior joint at the base of the A to B pillar and B to C pillar. They did correct the rear center to the rear cross member attachment. They also sealed up the rear quarter gap too. The only thing that has me puzzled is the very rear. I will take some pics to show what i mean at a later date.

As the title states, like most kids her age she is slightly indecisive and easily influenced by others. She is 15 now and will be driving sometime next year, I asked her what she wanted to drive for her first car and she replied she wanted a "Jeep". When I asked her why, her reply was that she wanted to collect "ducks".
I have enough parts left over from my build so I decided to find a basket case, in the Northeast that's about any 40 you can find as they are all rusted out and far from any loving care unless you want to spend some serious amount of money. The plus side, the pay as you go while I build it approach and having some parts already on hand passed the wife (aka COO, CFO, and expert on everything) litmus test. This I thought was a win-win for me as I really wanted to build another Land Cruiser as there is nothing to do in the winter and I really don't have anything left to do on my 74. Of course the wife added the condition that it must have an automatic, well that just made it a little more complex and a tad bit more work too. I do however get to work on it as its for my daughter without her complaining as much as she did with the first build. I secretively believe she added the condition of an automatic so she can drive it in the summer with top off.
So sit back and enjoy the next couple of months as I try to make a rust bucket in to something drive able before August. She turns 16 in August plus I go to one car show a year and would love to have both 40's in the show. My kid does actually go to the show with me so It would be really cool to have a father/daughter showing. Fingers crossed.
Are you prepared for the additional amount of teenage boys this rig will attract.

Too late, she just had one over. I was bleeding the brakes on the 74 and she was working the brake peddle while he watched the reservoir height. That was the extent of his mechanical knowledge. She wasn’t impressed. Plus, the teenage boys are more interested in the Nintendo switch games. There doesn’t seem to be Motörheads anymore.

I'd get her a jeep.

You're safer driving drunk than riding with a teenager.

FJ40's are death traps compared to modern vehicles and teenagers can't drive for crap.
This made me laugh out loud. I’m currently waiting for my 13yro; he’ll be driving in a little over a year. I’m building a 59 f100 “with” him. Not really a DD, just something to get him in the shop. Realistically, I’m thinking he’ll drive a beater Subaru. Something with an anemic 4 banger and airbags.

When my brother's boys were approaching driving age, I told him to get them a miata.
-No power.
-Cheap
-Can't go anywhere in the snow.
-It'd be real tough to get more than 4 people in it.
- Challenging to screw in.

A clapped out subaru is a solid choice too

Hoping so. It’s funny to watch her at a car show. She has a skit where she describes the work done on the 74. I have had her in the shop for a few things.
Sounds like a cool kid😁

Enjoying this ……… Get back to work!

My two older boys learned on my lifted 69’ FJ40 on 33 x 9.5’s.. 😂. I figured if they “survived” driving that, they would be good drivers, and they are. When my youngest was 15, FJxx were already pretty expensive (and I had 2) I bought a 84’ CJ7 for $800 with no drivetrain, found a good rebuilt engine for $300 and an AX15 for $250 etc. He too is a good driver now.

We eventually lifted and locked it (also on the cheap) and trailered it to Moab.. Had him driving the trailer with mom’s Sequoia over the mountains on I-70 in a snowstorm! Later when in the military he was one of the only young people that could tow and back about anything.. I say start them on primitive vehicles and the physics will all make more sense!

Both of my grandsons of driving age have beater Subarus. Both of them rebuilt their own engine with my son's help; both are experiencing the frustrations of an old beater car - always something to adjust, bleed, or repair. Keeps them busy, and they'll appreciate a better car later when they can afford one.
