I am in need of new supports front and rear. I am going to go with the McMaster option and am wondering if anyone came up with a part number for a McMaster hood support? My truck is in the body shop so I can't do any measuring and want to get these parts coming. I want to order everything from McMaster, so I don't need any sources thanks (Ebay, etc.). Thanks, Ken

Thanks for this. I've been looking for a replacement for my worn out gas struts for some time now. I just ordered #90 struts from McMaster, I can't wait till they arrive. I am tired of getting my head bashed by the hatch!

Just ordered a set from Ebay, $55.00 including shipping.

Got the #90 McMaster-Carr struts installed. What a difference they make!! If you need gas struts, this is the way to go.

McMaster hood lift struts needed

OK...I was looking at the Ebay struts last night w/hood and tailgate struts about $90 for the pair but these stronger struts from McMaster Carr are sounding like what I want.

I need the front hood struts as well so anybody that can help figure out what to order for this from McMaster Carr for both, please speak up. Something slightly heavier duty than stock would be great.

I added a qt of oil today and as soon as I was about done, hood dropped square on my noggin. Ouch!!!! Need to fix this ASAP.

Thanks,

Just ordered me a pair from McMaster! Cant wait to get them in, I have been hitting my head:mad: on the rear hatch for 2 months now when the weather is really cold! :D

I did McMaster fix last year and I love it. I'm 6'2" and I enjoy knowing that I can walk under my hatch and have zero issues. I like that it even opens up higher even.

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered them for my LC. Do you think they would work for the hood struts also?

No, different size, but I believe somewhere in this thread someone posted the McMaster part numbers for the proper struts for the hood.

still one of the best mods I've done, the extra couple inches really do make a difference! thanks again for the write up!

installing mine now. Am I supposed to be cutting off any threads on the ball joint attachment on the McMaster shocks? Doesnt look my lower ball joint threads will clear the inside of the hatch with the mount. Top one looks fine.

EDIT: I went back and re-read the OP. thx for the tip!

Any McMaster substitutes for the hood before I place an order for the rears?

For the hood struts, McMaster-Carr doesn't have an exact replacement,
kinda like the hatch. The stock hood strut extended length is
16.325", compressed length is 10.75", with a 5.625" stroke.
I would think the 4138T569 would work, because there's 3/8"
of unused stroke on the stock strut. I used a cable tie on the
plunger end to arrive at the 3/8" measurement.
YMMV

Got the ones from Ebay, just like OEM, took me 10 minutes to install.

jvasquez, do you have the link for those? and where are they made?
Thanks,Anton
