P, I'm lazy and don't want to look....... who did you get your SOA kit from? RuffStuff?

J

Yep, its the Ruffstuff kit. HURRY UP AND GO SOA!!!!!!!!!!!! ...not that you don't have enough fabrication on your plate right now haha.

And speaking of Reevesci... Even MORE bumper progress

[

As you can see I'm going with a single, centered tire carrier, but with a little something something added in :)

I'll be taking a break from yours and trying to finish Goss' bodywork and primer... Then some 80 bumpers. Let me know when the "something .. something" is enroute to the shop.

Will do :D

Any updates on this beast?

Not really. I did replace a rear axle seal the other day only to figure out i pushed it in way too far and it started leaking overnight worse than before, so i changed it out yesterday and its been great so far.

Today, i tightened up the brake shoes so that i actually have a functioning parking brake, but the passenger side didn't feel like cooperating. I took the disc off and it looked alright, but id still like to just go ahead and replace all the little brake components at each wheel in the near future just to make sure everything up to snuff.

J's been working on other things so no updates on bumper (not that he should feel rushed to finish). I did decide that id just go ahead and add the little "something something" myself when i get the bumper delivered to save myself a few hundred dollars on things i don't necessarily need, but just want haha. And he's been really nice and is gonna send me a little quarter guard "kit" to weld onto the bumper myself when it arrives because shipping prices would've been freaking enormous otherwise.

Ive also been looking at the ruffstuff anti wraps bars and am gonna order one of them soon, that'll be fun to get back into a little welding project again.

I do have a wheeling trip planned for this weekend that should be really fun. Ive never been to this place so I'm hoping theres lots of pictures but my brother will be driving his own truck so I'm not sure. I'm sure he will... WONT YOU AIDAN!

I will make sure to get some pictures of you as long as you get pictures of me too. Im looking forward to wheeling this weekend

Chocco Part 1.

A few Ga Cruiser members, my brother, and I went to Choccolocco Offoad park in Alabama over the weekend and had a pretty great time. I had never been, so it was the perfect place to test out the never before wheeled SOA Woody and it was exciting as hell, but there were a few mishaps haha.

The problems started before we even woke up, as in we overslept and missed the little caravan out west lol. Then on the way there, i started seeing this "condensation" start appearing on the rear glass... turns out it was diff fluid from the loose rear breather hose clamp, at least it wasn't from the axle seal like i initially feared haha. Then when we finally get out on the trails, we figure out my radio isn't working, so i can't here people telling me my front wheels aren't pulling... turns out the hubs were locked on the highway ride up, and i actually unlocked them by accident before getting to the trail head. I was worried that i somehow incorrectly reinstall the gears in my transfer case, so i was super happy it was just the hubs.. although a tad embarrassed LOL!

So on to pictures!

The group we met up with. This was at the top of a rather steep hill after i locked the hubs and stopped making a fool of myself in RWD hahaha.

right before this picture, i decided to get into trouble by hugging the driver side ledge too much, let my rear passenger tire fall in the rut, spine sideways and rocket my front driver side tire get a couple feet off the ground. Im glad theres no photos documenting this dumbs miscalculation LOLOL!!!!!! That screw up was only the beginning of all the ass clenching SOA moments...

Aidan and I decided we'd sit out and look pretty here...

...while Ted, John, and Nick went and played on this trail
\

So i started wimping out on stuff after that little mishap on the hill. This tall ass SOA truck needs to be lowered before id really feel comfortable getting into tougher stuff... i know, I's a biatch lol.
So now we're stuck with pictures of easy trails. SORRY!

I hopped out of the trail right before it got good... luckily others were more experienced in driving SOA trucks!

Me clapping in celebration!

Chocco Part 2.

After lunch I retired Woody, and we made our way to one of the rock bouncer trails...

I was hoping to see John and Ted hit Boat ramp like this... unfortunately, they wanted to use crawl it instead of use raw horsepower that the little 6 and 4 cylinder engines put out!

This 4 runner was with a big we found sure put on a loud show though... V8, linked, one tons, 43s, no s***s, etc... it was neat!

In the end it was a winch that got all the trucks up, including that giant 4 runner up boat ramp. Gotta have reds or ALOT of momentum!

But the trail doesn't end right there, more big ledges that didn't need winching!
except maybe if a a tree catches your beadlock...

Channeling Bruce Lee.

But they made it out and up.

The bypass to boat ramp wasn't anything special, but it was way funner in the 80 than the 62. 37s would've been too much for the trail.

Again, the others went and found some bigass ledges to crawl, and Aidan and I found this bypass. Super steep climb, with a ledge at the top.

Chocco Part 3.

And this giant abomination... 50% roach, 50% rabbit, 100% fxxxed up nightmare.

Overall, I had an awesome time at Chocco. Great people, scenery, and LOTS of pretty girls my age in Jacksonville, Alabama. Cant wait for the next trip back

So Ive got a new to do list:
-FIX THE RADIO!!!!!!!!!! not being able to communicate sucked.
-New tcase O ring. I forgot to install that when i installed the new output shaft seal.
-LOWER Woody, i put that on the back burner until i got to see how it was off road and i get the rear bumper. Its terrifying, so now its back up top lol.

There were some harder trails that we went on but we didn't get the chance to get out and take any pictures. We do need to lower Woody a few inches. Even if that means we have bring out the cut off wheel and sawzall, but we will attempt to make it look like it never happened by welding up the inner and outer fender back together.

great pics. someone needs to tell me the secret of how we can insert more than 5 pictures in a single post

Patrick, what are your measurements from ground to front frame rail (in front of shackle hanger) and from ground to rear frame rail (at rear crossmember)?

You don't look that tall to me. Sure you can benefit from lowering, but you don't look obnoxiously tall. Once you wheel some more with the SOA suspension, you'll be more comfortable with how it feels. At this point, I can lift a tire off the ground about 2' before I even realize it (I notice my lack of lockers first), and I've had tires up to 4' off the ground without feeling like I'm going over. That said, I've been through sidehill obstacles with all 4 tires on the ground, nearly sure I was going to put her on the side.

Before lowering, I'd recommend switching out those steelies for something that's got more backspacing. #1 rule of lifting is to go out as much as you go up. Increase your track width and you will restore some of your stability.

Either way, awesome pics :D

FLICKR...

But, I'm too old school to figure it out...

P... help us old farts out...

J

Yep, Flickr. It lets me put up to 20 pictures per post. I think its like $20 a year for SUPER MEGA UNLIMITED FLICKR MEMORY! or else it'll only save the newest 200 or so pictures in your flickr.

Not exactly level ground (parked facing a slight upward slope).
Front: 27.5"
Rear: 29"

J's bumper should help lower there rear, and I'm planning on moving the shackle hangers inward slightly if need be.

Yeah John and Ted were both being real nice and telling me i was just learning the new suspension as well and that does make sense, I just don't want to exceed the limitations as I'm learning lol. Ill begin looking for some 2.5" or 3" BS rims, just so damn hard to find!

I think a few inches wider and 2ish inches lower would be perfect (I feel like I'm gonna rip my jeans while getting in the driver seat LOL), I'm just wondering what i could do to lower the front since the spring packs already flat, and i believe frenching the shackles is only done when you're shackle reversed. And id probably screw with the castor and pinion angles if i lower it... All suggestions welcome. And if for some reason you have some 17" rims with 3.5" or less BS, send me a pm!!!

Thanks Johnny

Oh gawd, J! Are these the "fappening" pics I've been hearing about on the news??? Its looks so good! Thank you so much :):):):):):):):):):)

And thanks for the rim info, i figured id probably have to have some made... Damn silly size rims... Or i can just save up for some TR Beadlocks in a 3.5" BS and look like a MASSIVE poser :rainbow:...idk.
