FYI, your fender flares are the same front to rear (if you swap sides) That is, your right front fender flare is the same as your left rear fender flare. and vice-versa.
So, if you need to repair a right rear fender flare, find a good left front fender flare. Cut them all off and weld up the good one.

That is the coolest bit of Pig knowledge I have ever heard!
Thanks Pighead!

If your plan is big tires and lots of wheeling, I'd go SOA and get it over with. I saw you mention Alcans, and that's the road I'd recomend for people wanting to stay SU. SOA eliminates any doubt or dissatisfaction with ride height. Gear swapping (if you're running 4:10/4:11) is not totally necessary, will make it easier getting off the line but eliminates the "overdrive" factor of larger tires on the hi-way. Check out some of the rigs around this site and talk with some owners who are running SOA with a stance/look you're going for about any Q's you might have.
Also, if water got into the oil and was ran thru that engine, then allowed to sit for 4 years, that engine is most likely toast. Pull the valve cover and oil pan. Rust removal is'nt gonna do squat if your bearings, crank and valvetrain look like they've been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for a decade.

Will do, I figured I would keep my 4.11s for now. I may in the future try to go to something a bit taller. I figured I would have to driver her a bit and figure it out.

I will definitely pull the valve cover and the pan to check her out, judging from the condition of the oil it is the same stuff that has been sitting in her for 4 years ( I am guessing 4 because that is when the tags expired). There are no signs of water yet, but I definitely need to see if this thing is salvageable or if I need a heart transplant as well. The only reason I bring it up is the broken tabs on the thermostat housing are eating in the back of my mind, and I know it got really cold a few winters ago in Tucson which is where this pig was sitting.

Last Week

Well its been a little while so I figured I should post my progress.

Last weekend I managed to attack the interior, I cut the old seat mounts out, removed all of the old brackets and the front heater and started preping for my Ranger Bucket intstall with shoulder belts. I managed to pick those up at the pick and pull along with a second set of mini truck knuckles, so now I have enough to do 2 front brake conversions...

I ended up finding about 30lbs more dirt in the process of removing my seat but no more rust! Now I just gotta haul it all to the dump. I also found that the truck no longer runs, more on that in the next post. The pictures shouw what was removed.

This weekend

This weekend, I got a bit more done. I ended up trying to fill my forward tank, only to have it piss all over my floor through the filler neck. I said "Self I should fix this after I get this thing running again". The PO told me that the rear tank was full of crud so it was never used (more on that in a moment). So I went to work hanging my new to me door that I bought from Proffitts, and arrived on Friday. I also installed my new thermostat housing and water inlet since mine were destroyed (again bought from Proffitts).

After I was done with that work (Saturday night) I thought I should get the truck running. The PO put an inline electric pump and plated off the pump so I pulled the line and fired it up and fuel pushed out. So I poured a little gas in the carb, she sputtered and ran then died. So I thought, still not getting fuel. So it seems that some crud made it through the fuel filter and into the Carb. I also pulled the plugs and cleaned them for good measure.

Since I remembered the PO said the rear tank had crud in it I decided to drop it and check it out. I pulled something in my shoulder wrenching the rear two bolts out with a breaker bar, but I got them without breaking a bolt. When I dropped it, it had several gallons of fuel in it. I found it a bit weird as it wasn't ancient fuel, smelled a little but was clear when I dumped it. So I started chasing lines and I found that when one of the PO's put the fuel pump in, they connected the return line to the line leading back to the rear tank, and not back through the selector valve. So even though I was drawing fuel from the forward tank with the plugged line it was returning duel to the rear tank. I will fix that as I am going to re-run all new fuel lines and rebuild the carb to cover all of my bases. The tank cleaned up really nice when I hosed it down, and when I looked inside, it looked like BRAND new, no rust, no crud, nothing. So I think that the PO was off is rockers on the condition of the rear tank. I do need to replace my filler hose so I got to call cruiserdan...

Quick update... I have gotten done is get most of my Saginaw parts together, paint some hard parts and started stripping the 1/4 inch of undercoating off of the tank for repaint. This hot weather is killing my garage time!
