Honestly this was so easy with this that I think anyone could do it. My only problem was that the Insulator plate between the intake and exhaust was broke so I had to wait for the parts from SOR.

It sounds so much better now and I am idling at around 700 rpms!

Well it appears I have jumped the gun. I am having problems getting the truck running. I had them last night but thought it was due to getting fuel back to the system but this morning it took a good five minutes of cranking and pumping (Not sure this helped as there was fuel in the sight glass) to get running. Once it started it stayed running no problem anyone got any ideas?

After I got it running this morning I drove the 5 miles to work and let it sit for a couple of hours and had to run somewhere and I jumped in and it started up no problem.

I have searched but I am not finding much that fits with what I have.

Here are some picture of my desmog. I know I need to get the tape replaced and I will. Anyone give me a pointer to fix my starting trouble?

Anyone want to come up to Steamboat and help me Desmog my 60? :)

This is a great thread....This will be a good winter project when it's too nasty to go outside!

Thanks!!

I'm from steamboat. I'd get a trollhole carb when you do it. It make is real easy.
Check my new setup.

My 84 from CA has all that smog gear, all the vacuum lines but when everything is hooked up right it runs good. I will do a simple tune up as it is due, and continue to review this info to plan removing the smog gear that is not needed for a old FJ in Virgina. No smog tests for the old girl, so might as well plan on taking that stuff off. Great info in this blog, thanks so much for all the help.

Hope to be tackling this over the weekend and early next week. Been reading through the doc and once I am done I think I may have some suggestions and could possibly help with hosting a larger doc.

I have a few questions about what to do with a few lines since i have desmoged and now am putting on a trollhole carb with allot less lines. This should help out anyone else putting this on also.

In the top 2 pics.
The pic on the left is the original carb. I am wondering what to do with the hose that hooks up to the blue circled connection since the trollhole carb, in the top right picture, does not have that connection.
Also circled in red is the orginal carb electrical connector that has 2 terminals. The trollhole came with an electrical connector that has only one terminal. Would it be ok to just swap the cables? the entire thing unscrews from the carb. I wasn't sure if these would be interchangeable or not.

In the bottom 2 pics.
The pic on the bottom left is of the original carb with all the vaccum line connections marked. The pic on the right has only one place to connect a vaccum line. The HAC Slow Port is blocked off. I was wondering if this would be the Advancer Port for the distributor or Fuel Cut Port that goes to the Fuel Cut Vaccum switch.
If it is one of these would you just cap BVSV(1) port (a), since there is not a connection for it on the trollhole carb?

Thanks,

Got my little buddy started today, replaced/resurfaced manifolds removed all smog stuff. So quiet now. Its crazy. No more breathing fumes from my broken emission system. Unfortunately, I didn't get to tool around in the snow as it snowed mid desmog...

Any way you could do one of these or a write up for installing a webber carb?

@dangerclose11b Weber is a completely different setup and actually gets rid of a lot of the smog equipment if I remember correctly... Consensus is still out about weber on the stock FJ60 but most are not overly impressed with it. At $270 for the Trollhole I would go there if you don't have a stock carb to desmog.

@Spock Dingledong is that a bike lock on your truck? Help to keep the thieves at bay?!

Thanks for the reply I have inherited a lot of problems from po I guess I'll just keep chipping away tell she is adventure ready once more

@dangerclose11b There are a few guys on here that run the weber or try the 40 forum to see if you can get some help. Really though the $270 is well worth the investment for the Trollhole, which is brought in by a MUDDER and sold by him and he is pretty active on the forums to help troubleshoot any issues. That or check your local Pick N Pull type places for another 60 and pull the carb from that.

Haha, you never know. Just pull up to a light post, no need for the parking brake. Really it's for my 74 cb750. Just forgot about it. Still there!
