used this guide and the pics to complete my desmog over the weekend. still need to plug up the exhaust hole used by the air injection system though! When its plugged the truck runs really strong, way more ponies than before!

I am having trouble holding a low idle can't hold idle under 1000 rpms otherwise it dies. found out that the carb definitely needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. Perhaps a v8 swap if my business does better.

But this write up really really really helped me, especially with the pics so many many many thanks!

WOW! That document is awesome. I especially like the task list...and the parts list...and...and...

WOW!!

johnnyeveryman and others that have used the doc - great to hear you used the doc and it helped. Getting all that info in "My Desmog Thread" organized and laid out seems to really make a difference. That, and trying to figure out what all those valves and hoses are for, of course. ;)

I have to agree this is an excellent resource for us. Thanks for putting it together.

I have reached the point where I have functionally desmogged the truck and will commence removing the extra parts with the help of this document.

THIS THREAD SHOULD HAVE A STICKY OR PERMANENTLY POSTED IN THE FAQ SECTON!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!

I had the welcome to upper level of cruiser ownership happen 2 nights ago. Ye good ol smog pump went out cruising down the freeway. Its my daily driver and I don't have time to wait for parts to be ordered in. yada yada yada. In 2 days I went from screwed to having my 60 preforming better than it ever has in the last year sense I bought her. Thank you for the info and the pdf file. It saved my ass! You rock. It walked me through and answered most of my questions and common sense managed the small amount it didn't. Seriously if this does not get an honorable mention then I do not know what will.

oh my god im so glad i came on here tonight. am finishing my desmog tomorrow and cant believe this thread popped up with boricks pdf. this is so awesome.

Hey spline - very cool! Always like to hear a success story. Thanks also to all the folks on this and "My Desmog Thread" and JimC for all the great info.

Always looking to improve the doc, so if you've got suggestions after working through it go ahead and PM me with them.

Cheers!

man.. i just cant get over how simple this task is now that all that info from my desmog thread got unclusterf*&^%d. ive done everything but reroute the vaccum lines so that should be a breeze now thanks to this.

thank you so much

Hey - glad it worked for you and happy to give a little somethin' back to the forum. It's saved my bacon a couple of times even in the short time I've been a member.

My only suggestion is maybe add a little info on devaining the AP and a good way to plug off the exhaust manifold after removing the EGR cooler from the system. Like I said thats really just common sense stuff tho.
Im on day 2 driving it and other than the warm up it drives like a champ. I broke one of my BVSV valves and have to use the wrong one for now. Thats my own fault you did warn us about the plastic being brittle and all lol....

Thanks for the feedback, spline. I don't have any info on devaning the AP, so if anyone has pics and info let me know. In fact, there's probably a thread on this somewhere - I'll have a look.

There are a few good threads on devaining the AP on here but you have to be good with the search button. I wish I would have taken pics but I did a rush job to get her back on the road. The hardest part of the devain is getting the AP out of the vehicle with all that emissions crap around it. In retrospect I would remove all the AP lines and air rail before trying to get the Pump out. Gives you a little more room to work in.

This is great. My 60 has been sitting for three years and i finally got up the gumption to get her going. after replacing the fuel pump and filter it finally started. It is now running like sh**, and i was almost stranded in the boonies yesterday(wanted to stall every time i let out the clutch). I a noob and looking at all those hoses and all the other mess in that engine compartment is pretty overwhelming. However with this thread and the "desmog doc" i think ill tackle it and look forward to a much better running pig! thanks to boric and everybody else on this thread and MUD!

Working on desmoging and replacing my intake/exhaust gasket but I was looking over everything and I can not find (VCV for EVAP (driver side)) Could someone take a picture of it?

Never mind I was just looking at the printed version of Jims diagram and just mistook the diagram of another component for the VSV. I am good now.

hallelujah

A huge thank you for this document! I just completed my desmog/intake & exhaust gasket install. This document with the pictures makes this stupid easy to do. I will post some pictures (For critique) tomorrow it got too dark for pictures as I finished.

Had I not been a num nut and left my main fuel connect for the carb disconnected  it would have been flawless.

One more thing off the list thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to come up to Steamboat and help me Desmog my 60? :)

This is a great thread....This will be a good winter project when it's too nasty to go outside!

Thanks!!
