Could be the bleed valve is open too much. Allowing too much by. Basically the boost sensor is seeing extremely low boost, so the ECU isn't ramping up the fuel as it increases. You have the fuel adjustment on the spill rail, but the ECU also controls fuel flow. It increases as it sees more boost. So, if it thinks boost is lower, it doesn't add the additional fuel, so you don't see the full benefit of the tuning.

You are attempting to get as close to that fuel cutout as possible. Mine will actually hit the fuel cut if I hold it for long enough at full boost. I could turn it back just a touch, but I know where that occurs, so it let's me ride that edge of all it's got. I just let off a tiny bit when I know it's getting near. i have gotten pretty good at judging where it will occur.

I'll keep messing with it. Started with air valve screwed all the way out (open?) And screwed it in a little at a time, probably about half way in the way it sits now. Nice increase in power as it is and never seen egt's over 800 even with pedal to floor from0-80kph. From what you all have said I think there's a little room for improvement still. If not its noticeably better

So I finished installing a custom 3 inch down pipe and 2.5 exhaust. Now I have a lot more black smoke from exhaust and a little white smoke actually. Didnt have this before with stock 2 inch. Prior to new exhaust I did some tuning with manual boost controller turned all the way up, air control valve and fuel screw turned up about 1/2 a turn just shy of run away. Been running this for a couple months with no probs. Anybody have any insight to this? Is the fact I'm expelling a higher volume of air messing with my previous tuning? If so what would you recommend?

Strange that it would be running richer with addition of high flow exhaust. It could just be you can see your exhaust better now? Are your EGT's reading different? You could turn the fuel screw back down a bit. Also, go easy on the accelorator pedal until the turbo has spooled up. You can feel the point where pushing harder makes no difference, just more smoke. Mine smokes too if I floor it before boost has come on.

Okay so I turned fuel down a bit. Now up from factory about a quarter turn in. No smoke to speak of unless on the gas hard before turbo spools up. and sounds amazing. EGT's between 700-800 on 2 hour drive home maintaining 100kph, a couple times reaching 900+ post turbo on sustained climbs. Outside temps about 90+ degree farenheit with AC blowing cold the whole time. May try turning fuel back up to where it was. Overall happy with mod!

Thank you for all your help! This journey and process would not have been possible without all your guidance and input. I had 0 experience with diesels in general prior to buying the old girl. Because of you and others in this group I've been able to turn my anemic 2LTE into a decent rig. Contemplating driving it to Colorado with the fam for our Christmas ski trip

You're welcome! Happy to help as I'm able.

Bring it to the 70 Series Meet & Greet in late September. :)

I'd love to! Pretty long haul though
Look at it as a "proving run". We've had guys join us from Texas. :)
Plus you would be eligible for the "I traveled the greatest distance" t-shirt.

I may do it. I'd sure like to
It's by far the largest gathering of 70 Series Land Cruisers in the U.S. on an annual basis
and we would be delighted to have you join us.

I'm not a Facebook guy but @divemedic can help you with the information there.

Any body ever replaced the "V Belt" on their power steering pump. I believe they call it vane pump. Mine is about to go and am gonna do it today. It passes over three pulleys. Is one a tensioner to loosen to be able to get old one off and new one on?
