Good to know on the 30mm spacers.

So, on another note. What does Toyota use to seal the Trans pan? Does it have a cork gasket or do they use something similar to Fujibond (aka Ultragray)

My idea is, I plan to drop the Tranny pan when I change the fluid this time to also change the filter and to Check things out, clean it out ect. Then reseal the pan so its all fresh. Just wanted to know what I should order from the dealer when I go there.

Anyone have an idea on cost of genuine filter and seal/gasket?

I hope you wait until it gets warmer...

I was planning on doing this in the coming week(s)

Drive the vehicle to get the transmission hot, then dump the ATF while hot to get out all/any dirt/deposits.

Trans has a permanent mesh filter you just clean.
No pan gasket just toyota sealant .

Ok, this is good to know. Now I need to buy some Fujibond, or just RTV Ultra-gray it and call it good.

The only seal I did find, is a gasket for the Trans filter, so I ordered it, along with a new Thermostat/seal. $43 for a Thermostat and $6 for a seal! HOLY KIICHIRO TOYODA, say it isn't so!

Well, it better be a well built thermo for that price. :flipoff2:

Where did you buy your parts from?

That's ridiculous, I just got a thermostat from toyota, was $15.17, and $3.38 for the gasket. If that's from your local dealer, you need to tell them to get bent!

And I just looked, full retail is $21.22

WTF! Really.... That is total BS. Different dealers can't change the price of factory parts, can they?

If so, I wonder how I can make my deal acknowledge this price scalp and get compensated accordingly?

Yes different dealers have different list prices, which is why , 95% of the time, I go with American Toyota (Dan or beno), they give a nice discount to Mud members and will get it to your door as quick as you want to pay for.

In the past I have called my local dealer and compared list prices and American Toyota's list prices are typically cheaper to begin with. I think Dan has said why, but I can't recall why or where I read it.

It will be good for you to know for your next round of parts buying. Also, I doubt your local dealer will do much for you on the price.

You can't, what's done is done. What you need to do is get a list together and order it from American Toyota all at once to avoid any downtime. You made a rookie mistake so live up to it.

Agreed. To ease your pain, I just paid $203 for a downstream O2 sensor for my 97.

I can only imagine how much that would run from the guys down at American Toyota with the mud discount.

Thats pretty hefty. I wonder what Carquest would run for that O2 sensor (They carry YEC) which is a decent brand, I'm running their Cap/rotor on my 3F-E with NGK plugs/wires.

Now several will argue this, but I am a firm believer in OEM only, especially O2 sensors, if you search this topic you will find several instances where guy get the aftermarket only have them to fail early, or sometimes not even work properly out of the box. I have not had this happen with my 80 Series, but with one of my old Toyota pickups, I bought some cheapies on ebay and got hosed.....lesson learned, OEM for life.

My $0.02

I am a believer in Genuine parts too, Genuine Thermo's are always a must, Stant makes them to short (At least with Subaru) I also run genuine filters or WIX. Seals/gaskets I like to get Genuine or Fel-pro (Which are most times genuine, I have gotten Fel-pro kits with seals still wrapped in FHI bags straight from Subaru)

There are just some things that should be genuine when replaced.

I would just go in there and show/tell them that by gouging you with that price, they made $43 and that that is the last $43 the'll get from you, they made $43 to lose a customer for life.

Keep in mind that the price I paid was online and probably equal to what cdan would charge mud members. Also, my local dealer is always a bit higher then the suggested retail. I just only use them if I absolutely must have that item right now, like when my rear axle seal went out a few months back, I needed it that day and paid double for it.

Axle seal! In Stock! You can't be serious? I couldn't even get a Thermostat the same day, it had to be shipped up from Chicago. Lame....!

It was in there warehouse, which lucky for me is in the area, and they can do daily transfers as long as you order

Ah, lucky you indeed!

Speaking of Genuine Thermostat, I was shocked how big this thing is! I thought it was for a 350 at first! :p
