Yep, I know 33s will clear. Just wondering about width? This thing is only 4,500lbs wet, will a 12.5 wide tire cause it to float to much on snow/mud? I just don't think the 10.5 is wide enough for this vehicle.

My street tires are 33x10.50 BFG ATs and they run fine. I have a set of 15x8 steel rims for my 36x12.50 Swampers.

Not exactly sure what you're asking. Any tire will "float" to a degree on snow and mud.

How about 11.5? I loved being able to get those for my FJ80. Here are my 32x11.5x15's BFG's, aired down to "float" on the snow. I loved em:

Those look good, Those are the original Mud-Terrain's yeah? Which aren't available anymore from what I know.

I was planning on the KM2s for an everyday tire, and they only come in 12.5 wide (Which is like 11")

Your 80 looks great!

Something I've been looking at for a while now is, the driver side front bumpstop, For some reason, its turned (Outward) and kinda rubs on the spring from time to time. How could it have been turned? I am guessing that the base of the bumpstop is at an angle (Kinda like a spring) so it only seats one way?

How can I get it to point straight down again? I am guessing I need to remove the spring, does only tension hold it on there or is it also bolted?

I can take a picture if needed.

Take a pic of that please

As for tires go large the 3FE can handle it. :grinpimp:

You will have to pull the spring to take a look at that.

Inline-3! please tell me you had the 5spd and not the CVT gearbox.
4wd auto, I used to beat the snot out of it.... One time one of the spark plug cables came off while driving up to Big Bear Ca. Made it to the top on 2 cylinders, found the problem after I parked it and it made the trip back home no problems. Was looking into modding a 87 Turbo Sprint turbo and intercooler to it.

I imagine the springs and shocks are original, which could cause the sagging on one side. Is it possible someone wheeled it recently, and got the front end to go to full droop. I could see how that might unseat a spring and cause it to twist, maybe even banging up the bumpstop on the other side. Perhaps the PO took it out for one last good ole flogging before letting her go. My shocks and springs were totally gone when I finally replaced them, all the shocks poured their guts out, and driving it was horrible.

Speaking of pouring guts out, do I detect some soupy poopy on your PS knuckle, can't quite tell from the pic.

Love the story on the Justy! I've seen somebody in Canada made one into a Twin Turbo with a huge intercooler on the front lol. Down pipes and cooling lines galor!

As for this rig being wheeled, anything is possible at this point. It came from Missouri, so who knows what its gone through. I haven't found any trace that this thing had been offroad, looks like someones DD. Although, it was in some type of accident once, I can see some crinkled metal where the front fender bolts to the fender liner.

I'm hoping that the springs are good, and all I need is some new shocks, guess we'll see.

As for goop on the knuckles, yeah, it was loaded when I got it. Wiped it up and regreased them (Steers nice now) still a lot harder to steer then a 2500 Ram WTF? lol

I like how everyone has more to say about the Subaru then the 80 Lol!

Yeah people who are used to big solid axle 4x4s are impressed with what an old Subaru can do (50/50 4WD!). Do you have the D/R 5spd? Add a 3.9 rear LSD and some 27" Bighorns and it'll be almost unstopable on the trail.

Mines a 3AT S/R 4WD, but has never let me down, Slow? Yes. :)

Your 80 looks to be pretty clean too. The 80 gets a lot of talk of being slow but I think the old Subaru's may even be slower. Unless you wind them way out which they tend to love the high RPM's.

My 86 GL wagon is a 5 speed and has the shift for full time 4x4 hi and lo. Looks great but rust has limited it to the farm beater. Pics here, on ultimatesubaru too. 86 Subaru GL 4x4 - a set on Flickr

As for your 80, my knuckles were very gunked up with grease too but they function great. Grease on the underside seems to be a great benefit to most these old vehicles. Keeps the water, salt and rust away. I clean them a bit but keep a layer on for function over form.

I do prefer the 80 for long camping trips. It handles loads so well. My stock springs are tired too and the shocks are worn out. I have a set of OME heavies in the garage and Doetsch Prerunner shocks just waiting for me to put them on. Here great things about that combo.

Yeah, I think the 80 is pretty quick, sure does 60mph real nice. It Toyota could have made a better shifting map for this rig though, needs to use 2nd gear longer IMO. But then, this thing wasn't build for passing power (Like the FJ Cruiser) this thing is supposed to be a slow, go anywhere vehicle :)

Thats too bad about your soob, those rockers are pretty well done (Nothing some welding couldn't fix though) Only the 85-86 had the brown interiors! Glad to hear your on the USMB too!

As for the FJ, my parents have a 2008 (Brick red) and wow, that thing has so much power and torque (4.0 VVTI V6) 1/4 throttle and it pushes you back into the seat (Its way faster then my buddies Turbo Legacy) the shifts are so quick it just glides into the next gear, I love driving that just for the shear power.

So, can anyone help me with some random parts I need for the 80? I've tried the Classifieds on here but no one has ever gotten back to me. And Landcruisers are non-existent in Pick'N Pulls.

What I'm looking for:

Passenger side window switch bezel/trims for front and rear doors. Color does not matter.
Driver side power mirror.
Steering Column Cover.

Let me know what your asking shipped. I could really use these items!

Try crusierparts.net. They have those sort of items

You need to go to the part-out section. There's always a ton of 80s being parted out.
