Have you ripped the metal apart on your stock front cover yet or is your scab plate actually welded to the housing itself? I think an 8" steel pipe cap you hold it.

I have seen two front dif covers with the metal torn due to hydro assist rams being welded to them. I can take a picture of mine if you want.

Scab plate is welded to housing. It was a rush job to get the hydro assist worked out so it will be a straight swap to the new housing.

Housing is trash and coming out as soon as I finish it's replacement, which will have a 10" pipe cap cover.

A few years back I fitted a asist ram to my FJ40, it was overpowering to the point of not haveing any (feel in the stearing wheel).
You could stear with your little finger, intermitant cross winds were the worst.
Didn't take long to fit a proper power stearing box.:steer:

You saying that you had manual steering with a ram assist?

I still used the oringinal box then fitted a assist ram from a early Ford Falcon , they used a shuttle type stearing valve that was fitted to the end of the Pitman arm,
there was no way of reduceing the sensativity, I proble only needed 20% assist but 80% assist.

There is pretty much no comparison of that syle of ram assist compared to what these boys are referring to..

Sorry, I thought the topic was ram assist stearing, maybe its more like ram stearing.

No, you are correct, it is about ram assist, your example from a Ford Falcon is pretty far out there ;)

The way these setups are designed, you take a powersteering box, and use it as the valve for the Hydraulic ram. So, by design, the systems work together. It's a pretty slick setup.

Your setup sounds a lot more like a full hydro system that would actually work against your stock steering box. Definately cool tho, do you happen to have any pics of it?? :D

Hey, sorry to hijack, but who can tell me where to get this type of u bolt flip kit?

Looking into hydro assist, hoping to be able to use my stock 2H pump, but i definitely need to look more into the pros and cons...
