I had the exhaust manifold heat shields coated by a local business. They were looking pretty shabby. This stuff should apparently prevent corrosion and keep them looking good for a bit longer. I also picked up some hardware from Toyota. The bolts are grey coloured, I assume some sort of heat treatment.

I've taken Friday off work and I've got a mate coming over who knows a bit about cars. The plan is to get the transfer case back together and then get the engine and gearbox back in the chassis...........well that's the plan anyway. Stay tuned. Cheers, Ben

Well true to his word, my old mate Smithy turned up today. Stuck a few logs in the fire, drank some coffee and had a crack at putting the transfer case back together. This is him.....in action.

It's a good thing he did turn up, because he managed to solve a few mysteries (I reckon I'd still be scratching my head). Thanks Smith......it was good to hang with you man.

Hi Ben. The t case looks great! Just like everything else on your rig. What type of coating was applied to the exhaust manifold heat shield? It looks like the new chrome paint/coating.

It is an aluminium product called HP1 Polished Aluminium. I'm not actually sure how they apply it. I'll find out and get back to you. Cheers, Ben

G'day Mudders, I think this a milestone moment.......... The engine is back in chassis!!

G'day All, I got a couple of hours in the shed this afternoon. I bolted up the flywheel, clutch and gearbox. I followed the torque settings and instructions as per the Toyota manual. It will be interesting to see if actually works. A couple of pics...........

i hope i will not dis-enthuse you by saying this, but do you realize that this is not a factory correct resto? it's just, they never left the factory in that condition.....

Another pic. It sort of reminds me of an old Chev truck........full length chassis, straight 6, manual gearbox. The simple things in life.

Got out to the shed for a quick session post kids bedtime. Terrain Tamers clutch slave cylinder hooked up. I used the original Toyota nose bit, it seemed to fit into the clutch fork a little more snuggly. Hooked up a few wires and started on the hi-low levers.

G'day All, time for a quick update. I got the hi-lo gear stick and the overdrive hooked up. Bolted in the front drive shaft and the starter motor. Tonight I got down to the shed for a brief decompression session and started on the brake lines. It is kind of nice to introduce a new colour, even if it drab olive green. Cheers, Ben

Brake lines. I was going to have them made from stainless. But, apparently, its much harder to bend and my brake man started grumbling and moaning. So I got me some 'camo' brake lines instead.
