My point is you're using 1x data set. This is an 80 series value thread, not a BaT summary thread. And while I appreciate the assumption I know nothing about statistics, you don't have a data set to make that inference either.

I agree, plenty of cruisers are still sold for 5-9k as well.

If you want to get philosophical about math, feel free to PM me. Probably not something the whole thread will find valuable.

The question was raised about the center point of values and bat's graph is capable of limiting outliers to show where the majority of sales lies from their site.

Regardless of where the data comes from a 100k 80 series is an outlier.

BAT is not really a good indicator of the market overall. All it takes is two retired dentists getting in a bidding war to drive up the price in the last hour.

High mileage 80s can still go for a decent sum, but it helps to be in a relatively affluent area where there’s a big off roading scene.

The opposite can also be true in WA and down the West Coast though. As soon as there's a market blip and the Tech community gets scared they fire sale assets, since the loss isn't as painful to someone who makes a 200k yearly bonus. Haven't seen it so much with 80s (hasn't been a drop since I've owned one, other than Covid which was a different animal), but definitely seen it happen in the past with built Jeeps locally.

Given Tesla's trillion dollar valuation, I can't imagine we're that far from a correction. Doesn't help anyone looking today though.

Depends on how fast I needed to sell it and the cost to sell on bat with a reserve

Depends how pretty or rare your high mileage Cruiser is too. I'd use BaT if I thought it would appeal to the crowd there and cause enough boners to maybe start a bidding war.

Probably less than I coulda shoulda but it went to a home w/ a sibling (red 80) and wanted it gone quickly to be one less stress with an upcoming move. To me, as long as it doesn't get flipped for a quick buck i'm happy. Thanks to everyone on this forum for letting me creep through all your amazing write ups these past 3 years for every single thing I had the pleasure (or pain) of getting to do this amazing rig. Expect to see me with another cruiser in the next couple years, but unless I figure out something someone else hasn't already asked or wrote a how to, you might not see a lot messages from me.

You have to wonder how many low mileage Cruisers there are out there. It seems like so many of them were sold in the last few years of 80 series buying frenzy.

There are still a few, I think the spike did put more into preservation mode and separate the collectible cruisers and the drivers!

It happened the last time fuel prices were sky high right before the last recession (2007/08). You could pick up any gas guzzler for peanuts, including Landcruisers. The price of used fuel-sipping cars went up and were in high demand. Then the bottom fell out when oil prices shrank down and you couldn't give a small car away, a cycle that repeats itself. There is an abundance of oil underground, it's the moron's above ground that drive the prices up with stupid energy policies.

Yes, 80 Series were just ~12 year old non classic SUV’s (heck a really nice 60 Series was only $7500) back then and 1000s of 80 Series, Expeditions, Explorers, Tahoes, Yukons, Suburbans etc. were sold and shipped overseas to areas of cheaper gas and better economic conditions.

As soon as economic conditions improved, gas was still moderately expensive compared to last year, people went back to big trucks and SUV’s.

If the economy is strong, most people will drive/own what they like and at this point many desirable 80 Series are secondary cars and $3-$5 a gallon gas prices will have minimal effects on the market, obviously a recession or stratospheric fuel prices would be an entirely different impact.

Just purchased a 260k mile 1997 LX450. Rough around the edges and needs some TLC, but no rust found yet. Needs some paint work and has no maintenance records so I will be baselining it and having Trollholes inspect in next month.

I paid 9k for it FWIW.

Nice guy in the southeast. No maintenance records and little to no maintenance performed. Runs out good and seems to be a good base once I put some money and sweat equity into it.
