Hi! IF you're willing to share, I thought it might be helpful for the rest of us to better understand what the market prices are for the 200 series (and LX 570 I suppose). I'm personally looking for one, have found a few, and curious what others' purchase prices have been so I can negotiate (or not) properly.

Please share purchase price, year, mileage at purchase, and location (east/west/south, etc...)

Thanks and happy hunting for those also looking.

I'm waiting on the new 250/GX to come out and get eyes/hands on one to see if its right for me. Those hitting hte lots as well as interest rates remaining elevated will continue to apply downward pressure against pricing.

If I were currently in the market for a 200, i would 100% wait right now. You've got nothing to lose by waiting 2-6 months to get while the getting should (in theory) be better than the last several years for 200's.
Exactly.. Not to mention elevated levels of credit card and auto loans defaults.

Ok ok ok I guess I will wait.

I don't disagree with this but it does depend on your personal factors. I waited almost 2 years during my search, found one I really liked and decided that waiting 6-8 months to save a few grand wasn't worth it to me. I have a 20+ year timeline for mine so I went for one that checked all the boxes right now.

I've read through the last several months of messages here and I'm not sure I have a better beat on prices than when I started. :D

So I'll just ask for opinions on 2 different vehicles:

1) Midwest 08 LC with 220K miles. Looks pretty sharp, clean carfax, minor surface rust underneath, no rust on body. What would be a good price target?

2) The 08 Amazon Green LC listed on Mud classifieds. Just north of $40K...too expensive?....but that color. And the condition is mint.

What do you guys think?

Land Cruisers aren't a commodity like a Prius, Camry, Accord, etc where many transact. Way too many picky buyers, apprehensive (and mostly wealthy) sellers and low volume make for tough trends and analytics.

1) I would say $20K or under. Most of these will be listed $20-25K but most are not selling fast at that price.
2) Hard to know if $40K was the right price or not, but it sold. $40K would not be market on an 08 with similar mileage, more like $26-$32K. However, green buyers seem to pay way more and be the pickiest of picky so it might have sold near that. @LCBOSSFO want to let us know what the final price was on this one?

Cheapest 2013 refresh I have seen at $28K and 142K miles. Cali, Washington and Fl history along with an accident. Decent service records.

Glad I found this thread...

I've been on the hunt for the last month or so, missed out on one this weekend in KY.

2019, 1-owner CPO full service record FL unit. White on brown. 95k miles. By the time I came to grips with being 62k+ OTD and ready to do it, it sold. The above graphs are really helpful to confirm that kinda seems to be the market.

The search continues...

here's the 200 series pricing ranges from cars.com for today. Perhaps not surprisingly, there's still big outliers >= 2019. dealers are still hoping to avoid taking a bath on overpaying for them.

Dealers definitely aren’t offering the big bucks for them anymore. Yet they are still happy to hit you with their ADM’s, VIP packages, and nitrogen filled tires lol.

My 100 got totaled a couple weeks ago and I have since been in the market for a 200, I haven't really decided on a year yet, but would prefer 2013 or up. I am seeing a plethora of 2016 model years pop up with 100-120k miles. What would be a reasonable price on these? They all seem to be priced at $48-49k, with nearly all 2016s under 100k miles falling in the $51-52k range. I can fly and buy, but there is a black w/terra with 78k miles fairly close to me for $53k. I don't love the color or the price, but logistically its easier, but is $5k more for the same truck with 50k more miles worth it? With financing rates right now that $5k actually costs more like $7k when all said and done.

Sorry to hear about the 100. Don’t buy a logistically better car if you don’t like the color. Buy the color combo you like.

I sold a 2008 Land Cruiser last week. I bought a 2016 Land Cruiser in Late November off Cars and Bids. Wanted to have the new face-lift.
I also had a 2008 LX570 (I was original owner) and sold that in September with 252k miles. BTW, that 252k miles was with general maintenance: brakes, conventional oil change (not synthetic as it was a 2008) and tires. The only major repair in a quarter million miles was replacement of a radiator that blew out at 80mph. But that's it! Amazing.
Sold it for 18900, sold the 2008 Land Cruiser for 30900 (212k) and bought the 2016 for 55k with 87k miles (with OME lift, Full ARB all round).
I feel the 2016 LC bridged the luxury gap with its rich cousin the LX, while still keeping to the LC roots.
Toyota got ne with that Terra interior, Black Alcantara, and 8spd.

Here is a video on my take of a 2008 vs a 2016 LC:

Yeah, been a rough couple weeks for sure. I think what my heart wants is a 2016 white w/terra.... For under $50k though.. which means I have to settle for 100k+ miles on it. Realistically, I'll settle for White with Black interior. I'll be sure to report back my final paid price.

How does everyone navigate a Carfax report that says "damage reported", but shows up as "minor" in the description and the dealer knows nothing about it and it's not visually apparent? Should this be a deal breaker when spending this kind of money and travelling?

Minor damage is a fender bender, where ad new paint or bumper of panel is needed. My LX570 had a perfect record until a 17 yr old driver hit it from behind at 10mph at a stop (she was texting..) Needed new parking sensor.. reported as minor damage. So perhaps that minor damage will help you negotiate to sub 50k. Not a big deal. It's the major damage that should be of concern (frame damage etc..)
These Land Cruisers are Tanks, body on frame, but bumpers and corners are frail just like any other vehicle... Add steel bumpers and you'll never get a minor damage report... But you will upgrade the other guy from minor to major damage!

Didn’t look to see where you’re at but if the black LC you’re talking about is the one in Rochester, MN, I’d probably pass. I test drove it last night (I’m local) and while it was okay, I did detect some weird binding in the steering at slow speed with wheel cranked. But more concerning is that there was a definite burning oil smell from a short drive up and down the freeway. Smelled like it could be something dripping on the rear manifold or exhaust on the DS. I’m told the previous owner traded it in on new 5th gen 4runner.

It is indeed. I think my bio still says San Antonio but live in Duluth now, the sales rep down there sent me photos of the undercarriage and it looked pretty good for a MN/IA truck. Good looking out though, I will remove that one from my "maybe" list.

Who the hell trades in a Land Cruiser for a 4runner? Definitely suspect.

Yeah, cosmetically it looked great in and out. They’ve been keeping it in their showroom. But I wasn’t impressed with the test drive. I test drove a new Limited 4Runner at the same time for kicks and for the exact same price it’s a compelling proposition…AWD, brand new, car play, etc. Genuinely felt more “fun” to drive than the LC imo. But it’s definitely not as heavy duty feeling as the LC. But I’ll be honest…so far my old 2000 seemed like a better fit for me than either. I’m considering looking for a mint 100 and installing a modern afternarker radio into it. Also considering a 21+ Nissan Armada since they finally fixed the looks and updated the interior. My needs living down here don’t involve a lot of off road or narrow trails like they did when I lived in CA and OR.

How should I navigate trucks that have been on dealer lots for 3-4 months? Is that a major red flag or do these really just not sell that fast? Once they cross the $40k mark are they simply eliminating such a massive chunk of the used vehicle buyer market? I haven't had to do this in so long so maybe I'm just ignorant, I'm friggen paranoid I'm gonna get a lemon, and there isn't diddly for sale in MN or the entire Midwest worth even considering. Just saw one pop up in Fargo that has no photos yet but I got the guy to send me frame pics today and its more of the same. It's not terrible, but it's black... Ugh.

Not sure TBH.

And Landcruisers are an odd beast in that they hold so much value for so long. For instance, that 2016. Savvy buyers could pick up new LCs for invoice or even slightly less than that back then. So let's say the vehicle was $70 to $75K brand new. Now, 8 years and 80K miles later, they're still asking over $50K for it. And it's a midwest vehicle so it's not like what you'd be used to seeing in TX, or what I was used to seeing in California when I lived there.

I'd be inclined to buy on the Mud classifieds from a seller with a good reputation and history. Or maybe something like Carvana where you get a 7-day return period.
