I’m not sure year cutoff on valley leak…. here is a ‘16+ 200 series

4.6L 1UR-FE also used in 200 series in markets outside of NA but 5.7L 3UR-FE isn’t immune to issue either

My Toyota master mechanic I use agreed with those years as what he’s personally seen so far. I’m sure you could still have the issue 2015+ as it’s in a heat valley and heat is the Achilles heel of this component.

drive it until the wheels fall off.
Same with mine, but I’ll put those wheels right back on. F the federal government if they outlaw fossil fuels because I ain’t ditching my gas guzzler.

No, it’s not worse on turns. I did the dive test to double check the front bearings initially and it makes no difference. I also sat in the back seat/rear seats to listen in the rear. Nothing more than any other spot. The weird thing is that it only gives off that growly tire sound when I’m accelerating or even have my foot on the accelerator above 50 miles an hour. And immediately when I let off the accelerator, once the drivetrain disengages, I hear only tire noise, which is substantially less. It’s not a whining noise… More like a subtle vibration and light growling noise that does not get better or worse with speed. I’m wondering if it has to do with the tranny or diff. 🤔
any updates?

I'm going to do the heater t's also. Anything else I should have done while they're in there?
PCV valve and gasket, EGR valve and gasket, water pump + thermostat and maybe that fuel tube back in there (23901-0S040). My fuel tube was dry rotted so it needed to be replaced. I mean while the intake manifold is off I’d take advantage of it.

A new trans paid for is a huge win regardless of circumstances. Once the coolant valley plate issue crops up and you fix it you’ll be golden for probably a decade or two easy.
which is cheaper than any car payments one can get now on an new vehicle.

They’re as reliable as modern day cars come. Things need fixed but less so than any real competition. The 460 is better than the 470, opinions aside it is. Maybe you’d prefer one or the other, or afford one or the other, but newer is better by most people’s standards. Newer usually gets you longer before issues, and so is the case here. That compromise of new and less issues or older and more issues...that’s your priority to pick.

That said, as a person who’s owned nearly 50 cars....never buy a car you haven’t driven and seen unless you’re willing to throw away that money. I’ve done it a few times and have regretted it 100% of the times.
I bought my GX remotely. You need to find a dealer that specializes in online and remote transactions.

When I reached out to the dealership listing my GX, they sent me a file of about 200 photos, plus Carfax, plus service history, plus documentation of all mods done, including invoice.

They gave me a list of local mechanics for a PPI (I asked they go to the local Lexus dealership), no complaints from the dealership, and they took it in the next day.

They arranged shipping and even sent a local person out to detail the GX two days after it arrived.

So far, no complaints. I've done multiple online vehicle transactions, and it boils down to doing business with the right company. Just have to find one where their specialty is online transactions.

The only issue I've had with my 2017 that I think is an actual annoyance is the "key not detected" error that comes up fairly often when I open the door/get out with the truck running in Park. This happens regardless if I take the keys with me or leave them inside while it's running. Sometimes this clears itself after a few seconds but I often have to restart.
It's not a big deal, and probably affects the GXOR-ers more than the average driver since we're hopping in/out more to spot and such, but still annoys me.

I have a problem with my gx.

It keeps sucking money out of my bank account in the form of modifications. Wheels, tires, skids, bumpers, lift, roof rack, lights etc etc etc. there’s no end in sight.
There's a place you can go where you sit in a circle and introduce yourself as, "Hi. My name is "Spitntears" and I have a GX problem." And everyone replies, "Hi Spitntears."
Then you discuss how long it's been since you spent anything on your GX.
You may sometimes get the shakes, and feel a little nausea when looking at overland and built up GX's and feel you can't mod yours.

The incessant Toyota beeping is what pisses me off to no end. God dammit Toyota stop beeping at me, I KNOW [insert action here] is happening, I did it!!!

Weird. My '19 just beeps 3 times when I close any door and have the keys with me outside. I do that a lot getting my two kids in and out of their car seats and running back into the house 1000 times to get food, drinks, toys, etc. I've never noticed a key not detected error. If it's there, it has always resolved itself when I get back in the driver's seat.
I do get that error all the time if my keys are more than a foot from the damn steering wheel haha.

That reminds me, if you accidentally hit the lock button on the remote while a door is open, the subsequent beeping to alert you to that fact is EXCESSIVE!

So I lied. I have 2 annoyances and they're both based around the remote lol.

I agree, sometimes I'll touch the door handle to lock, not realizing my wife still has her door open. WAY too many beeps for that infraction.

What about when you unlock it and the mother ****er locks itself after like 60 seconds if you haven’t opened the door? OR when you remote start it and the mother ****er shuts off the moment you touch the front door handles? Seriously Toyota. WHY?!

You can increase that to 2 minutes or disable entirely in your vehicle customizations

If you are getting Key Detection errors there is an issue with your FOB or one of the various antennas for the system possibly has an issue

Techstream may help to troubleshoot.
