Hey guys,

I've been searching and saved a recent thread regarding electrical issues, and still need to post about what our truck is doing.

I have de-flared the truck and have not been able to finish patching up the holes and painting yet. I say that because of one of the threads where doing that allowed moisture into the left rear 1/4 and shorted a major harness connector.

I verified that the connector was fine today. I also eliminated the janky looking trailer harness the truck came with.

The issues are as follows:

-with the headlights on, the right blinker dash arrow and outside lamps stay on constant and will not blink.
-with the headlights off, the blinker will blink in front, but both rear tail lamps (red) and no right rear (amber) blinker-blink
-also with the headlights off and right blinker on the dash cluster background lights blink
-the hazards (red) and left blinker (amber) work fine
-the horn no longer works
-stereo and dome lights haven't worked for a while, and every once in a great while after shutting off the engine and leaving the truck it will honk once-prior to these last events

-rear locker harness is not plugged in-no actuator

If anyone might have any reasonable suggestions I will be spending my evenings with the truck pulled into the shop after work.

I would start with looking at every ground on the truck because to me it sounds as if you have a bad ground or unhooked it somehow. When you cut one light on and another comes on it's usually a sign there is a ground and he main light is pulling it's ground through that light.

X2 on the ground issue. That sure sounds like it.

I would check them all, but maybe start with the one most common to those circuits.

That makes sense of course, but where on the truck should I be looking. I'm pretty familiar with the engine bay connections and grounds, but if anyone knows of more hidden grounds-that's the sort of info I could use.

Thanks guys. I have to solve this while learning how to service new machines at work, and am probably doing a bad job of being a stand in homemaker while attempting to care for a broken wife.

Well, i just went out to look at my 80 and I'm wondering if it relates to the light/turn signal stalk? Most of your issues come from there. I still think ground, but is it a ground specific to those circuits? Haven't looked at the fsm. If you need one @Trollhole has a sweet deal on the download, so good it's basically free!

The other thing is that those citcuits roll through the fuse panel by your left knee, so maybe the problem is there? That's some serious upside down and backward s**t looking under there, but also where most people mess up mr t's fine creation.

Good luck!

I think i found my problem. Any suggestions of where to get good pigtails and plugs to graft in and can anyone tell me exactly what i need?

Also, whats with the empty plug with the blue wires? This is inside the right rear 1/4. I had no idea that road crud was getting up inside there.

Heck, if it was me I would just cut the plugs out, and use "crush caps" to connect the wires together. The caps look like a wire nut, but you twist the two wires together and crimp the crush cap over them. Forms a very good connection, and you can get the under body caps that come pre-loaded with dialectical grease to make them waterproof..... good luck!
