Slice it out, no other way.

Chances are the bearings are fine. If you are planning a 6 on 5.5 conversion you might want to wait until you get the parts for that.

I ordered mine, but will wait until I get some 80 series wheels before I swap them out.

i have one of these trailers i want to sell....what would be a reasonable price to expect.....its in top notch shape with very little rust.:) :) :)

in addition = you will want to repack the bearings (when you take it apart) if the bearings are still good - (along with) clean those bearings with solvent and thoroughly dry before re packing

Checked the wheel bearings this morning, and I don't think this trailer has ever even been used; I really think it has just sat in storage all this time (where it developed this rust). Everything in there looks like it was greased last night. I am going to leave them as they are at this point.

I did get the springs stripped today; below are a couple of before and after pics:

Cool. I got mine home tonight. I think I will pop the bearing caps and if the grease looks good I am going to wire up some lights and take it to the Cruiser Crawl this weekend just for the hell of it.

You already have yours? How'd you get it so fast?

Send some pics from the Crawl this weekend with it if you can.

I just installed the lights (can't belive the holes on the brackets are perfect for a lights "kit")

I also flipped the lunette to the top position. Sits perfectly level behind my lifted 100 series.

I have some 6 on 5.5 hubs to swap in as soon as I decide on wheels and tires.

Mine is in fantastic shape, thanks Koffer. I am going to nail it with the monster powerwasher tomorrow and get all the bubbled paint off. I should be able to get away with spot painting it instead of a full strip/paint job. I kinda like it green.

Now what?

Desert,

The what I did link shows a lot of nice stuff, I especially like the 80 wheels.

Now that you have all this done, what are you going to use it for?

I like the trailer, and I'm sure it looks cool behind the 80, but I don't see that many uses for it.

Help me out here.

Thanks Dtaylor - for me I will only use this trailer once or twice a year for basecamp style expeditions - I can carry more water and gas and other bulky items -

one of the main reasons for this trailer is Surf N Turf - I carry extra water - a generator - easy up 10X10 tent - Large Wok - BBQ gril - tables -and other things just for this event - I will also mount the Maggilina roof top tent on the trailer lid freeing up the 80 series - the 80 can then be light and ready for dune runs

Did you replace your spring bushings? How did you get them out?
You are supposed to replace 3 per side right?
2 on the shackle side of the leaf spring and the one bushing on the front.
How did you remove the bushings, especialy the bushing that is on the trailer side of the shackle, the one bushing that is actualy attached to the trailer?
Are these bushings standard trailer store items?
Do you know the size socket needed to take off the bolts that holds on the safety chains and the landing leg?
Becouse of you I knew already that I needed 24mm sockets for the suspention.:D
Thanks for the help and I am enjoying following your build up.

Although I have been pretty tied up with work lately, I have managed to get a few more things sanded, primed, and painted. I am hopefully still on my target completion goal of mid-November I think.

I have used a brush to apply the thick, heavy coat to the undercarriage, but I expect to paint the tub with a Binks and a compressor.

Here is the latest with my leaf springs and axle using the Gillespie 383 OD Green per spec:

loquito, I did not replace the bushings, as mine are in pretty decent shape. Also, it might be easier to find Jimmy Hoffa than replacement ones; I just don't know. I spent the morning trying to find some 24mm/1.25 stainless nuts around town, and no luck. I'm not even gonna try to find bushings.

As far as the bolt size for the landing leg, I am guessing around 30mm.

Hope this helps a little---

Very nice going back with the MILSPEC paint.
I can't wait to see the finished product.

Suspension bushings (hijack)

Don't mean to hijack your thread Cbmontgo but, I found replacement bushings at Specter Off-road, I ordered twelve 289-55-C at
$1.87 ea which are intended to be used on 1968-7/80 55 Series Toyota Land Cruiser leaf spring shackles. They worked like a champ. Getting the old bushings out was way more work than installing the new ones. I ended up using a propane torch to burn out the old rubber bushings.

Good information. I'll have to look into that.
