I like the NV4500 route too lower 1st gear an taller OD... Are you planning just keep under or around 33"?

I like the NV4500 route... I have driven a few GM trucks with that tranny and it works well, my knee just can't handle pushing a clutch pedal very much anymore... when i stuff the diesel in my 60 i'm going t400/203/split case...

side note... I know someone who last i heard had a NV4500 GM remand with no miles on it... Still had the tag on it from GM when i saw it....

You should send me the info about this mysterious person with the NV4500 :grinpimp:

My street tire size can change, that I don't really care about. All I want is for it to drive well down the road. These 33's drive like a miata compared to how Moonshine drove with the pitbulls on it.

I agree, the NV4500 sounds like the better route to take.

Spent some time pulling things off the motor tonight. Everything went off without a hitch, except for the following:

Broken exhaust manifold bolt:

I was able to drill straight through the middle of it without getting into the threads, but now I'm unsure what to do. Maybe I should try one of the easy-out bits? Any advise is much appreciated.

I also found some oil in the compressor housing output. The motor tipped over once in transit, so I'm thinking that this is a byproduct of that, but I'm not 100% sure about that either:

Amassed a decent little pile of parts and called it a night. Motor is looking better! Nothing a thorough cleaning can't fix

Punch those bolts through some cardboard, sir! Let me know when you're working on it again, so I can take up some space and drink some beer.

Kenny, I'm hurt that you never subscribe to my posts...

Will do bro! I'm planning on buying new bolts because of the broken one, so I was just keeping them around for mock-up.

I'll let you know when I have another big wrenching session

Right now this broken bolt is kicking my ass:mad: I've tried two types of extractors, both to no avail. I broke two adj. cresent wrenches and two tap wrenches trying to get the extractors out once seated. Tomorrow, I'm going to be drilling and tapping. Wish me luck!

In other news, MORE BOOST is en route from California. Should be here next Tuesday :bounce:

TerryfromCary, when you do a ROTW I will be the first one to subscibe to it!

In the mean time, get that head gasket changed for next month's "Logan's Run". :steer:

Johnny, amazed I haven't seen this thread before, being it was started in 2007 and is 70 pages long! I've still got about 50 pages of reading to get caught up, but I'm working on it.

You never cease to amaze me with your knowledge and endless passsion for your cruiser.
You are only the second person I have ever met that looks forward to breaking something on the trails, just so you have something to fix! Logan was the first...

Keep the posts coming!

Now get back on it Johnny, want to see it together for Logan's run. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I want to have it together!! Help me find a mid 90s Dodge cummins truck in a junkyard with a 5 speed that I can rob from it :flipoff2:

Johnny when we were doing the brake job on my truck we talked about an easy way to keep your rpms down.... just go military tires for the street.

I can give you contacts for the XMLS that I run.... by far the best street tire i've had on the 80.........

39's would give you a

1750 at 65 mph

Al, you are the man, thank you :grinpimp:

I'll hit you up for the tire information later down the road. Thanks man!

I do what I can let me know about that 203..... I may need that adapter on it for my own diesel conversion project.

what are the plans with the H55?
