I said the plan is the same as previous years, didn't I? :-)

will try to make it too.
was it as cold at night last year as it was 2 or 3 years ago ? brrrr....

(probably should start a new specific thread for this year?)

Is it cold anywhere in CA right now? It hasn't been terribly cold the last couple of years.

As far as I know from my last PM's with Ken is that we are still good to go this year. Don't know who, if anyone else, is coming. Ken usually posts this trip by tradition on Just Runs.

man, I remember sleeping outside next to the water after you guys all left and it was coooold... Would not be surprised if was just about at freezing... Odd for Sept. Can't be that high either...

As far as I know now, Ken is planning on going up Thursday to secure our favorite campsite. I'm not going up until Friday after morning rush hour. Should put me in the meadows midafternoon.

The higher the elevation, the colder it is. I just got back from near 10k near Bishop and it was down to 32 at night the one night. It did warm up a bit during the day, but it was not all that warm during the day.

I am not sure of who else going right now.

guys, interested in coming along on this trip if that is ok? I would be driving the 40 as the 80 does not have sliders yet. Are there challenging trails up there? and do you plan on running them or just camping / fishing? I would not be able to leave until Friday morning so if I could carpool with Brent that would be really cool. Let me know.

Noah

Yes, it is ok.

You really don't need the sliders though. I don't have any. The Sherman Jeep trail is interesting, although I have done it a couple of times (been there, done that). Brent might want to do it again though.

I am not sure of the exact plan, other than being there :-). I suppose you could fish, or perhaps go on a hike.

Brent would have to answer the question about carpool. Hopefully he will be willing, if the need arises, to be at the Ranger Station at noon so I don't have to.

I've only run Sherman once, so I'd be up for it again...not really knowing where I'm going tho!

No problem carpooling Noah. I usually head up the 395. Plan on leaving 8is or so Friday morning. We could meet at the Pilot gas station at the 395/15 around 9:30 depending on traffic. You running HAM? If not, we can exchange cell #'s.

Ok, some news. There are fire restrictions and while the river campsites are established, they are not officially established, which means no camp fires, no BBQs. I have a propane BBQ, which I would have to check on, so I doubt that I will bring it (it is small). Lanterns and stoves are acceptable.

There has also been some reports of a problem bear in the area, but since it was not officially reported, it is unknown where exactly. A vehicle was broken into, as well as a tent, which means be very careful with food and always cover an icechest as bears know how to spell "igloo" and "coleman".

FYI, the fire restrictions might not be an issue by the time we go. I called to ask about it and there is a chance it will be removed. I need to call at the end of the week to check again and perhaps just before the trip.

so that would be "meet at the campsite" rather than a chinese restaurant someplace this time then? :)

It is best to not talk about that so-called food place.

It is possible to meet at the campsite or it might be possible to arrange a meeting at the trailhead or ranger station, but that depends on when you are coming in. With the Ham radio, we should be able to contact anyone before they hit the trail, so if there is a problem, we can either come and rescue them or just laugh (just kidding, we would actually come and scavenge things :-).

Nah - just laugh!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::flipoff2: But only if it's Eric, then we can laugh and analyze the situation for 3 weeks, decide what to do, post here, wait another 3 weeks for answers, disregard those answers, analyze another 3 weeks, turn the problem over to his students to study for a semester, then take definitive action, break a birf in the process, repeat this sentence then walk home! :whoops:

It actually depends on if the vehicle is blocking the road.

One time a Jeep stopped in the middle of the road and I was tempted to push it off the side, but I did not want to be a litterbug. The guy hit a bump, going too fast, and it completely shutdown and would not start. It turns out that the EFI fuse blew, which might be a safety issue. Some vehicles have a reset for the EFI after a large impact.

I remember that story.
