front shackels

I like the angle of your front shackels, I have an OME S/R and mine are almost straight up/down.:censor:.
I have the safari springs made in canada and they have been out of prodution for awhile now. I wonder if your springs are longer and if they are if they would fit on my S/R kit?

I'm guessing the S/R kit is from Man-A Fre. I'm pretty sure OME doesn't build build one. In which case you'd be running the same setup in the front

Got My Rear End Going:)

Could not spend much time today had honey do's on my priority list:) Did get some of the grungy work done though:D Got drums and shoes off and cleaned the living crap out everything. Glad I got new shoes these are almost non-existent! No leaks though:bounce: My project manager said I can have Sunday to work on the waggy:clap::wrench: Should be able to get it out and all back together so I can run it.

S/R

lcwizard you are correct man-a-fee.
I read somewhere that someone moved their shackles forward?:bang:.
If I can buy a set of longer springs that flex better for around $300 that might be the way for me to go.:steer:

Big Changes :)

After buying bearings and gaskets for my SF axle rebuild, cleaning, removing brakes and backing plates and installing the new 3rd member I remove oil seal and bearings and find that during it's earlier life when maintained by Toyota dealers I find a huge gash across the oil seal and bearing surface:mad::bang: So being my perfectionist self i can't have that! So I rip the #@%ker out! I went to SOR and picked out my new baby FF axle:) brought it home today and tore into it and veeeeeeery happy to report that it is in excellent condition with non of the potential issues that can crop up in these aussie imported axles.

FSM Question

I did find some aussie outback ingenuity when I took the drums off the FF axle:hmm: Can someone tell me where in the FSM this part applies:flipoff2:

not apply but sure it works .. ( I use the same expensive tool/technique time ago when Tencha had rear drums )

FF Axle Installed

Got the FF axle cleaned, detailed and painted. Installed the bare axle, got the brake backing plates installed as well as the rebuilt 4.10 3rd member with it's aussie locker. So much easier to work with diffs and axles without the need to worry about "C" clips:D I'm sorry i did not listen to you guys that run FF sooner:mad: There is more than just safety going for this axle, it's a breeze to work on and with:clap::wrench: Ordered the SST from Toyota to tighten the adjusting bearing nut and got all the brake lines reattached and cleaned the @#*t out of everything AGAIN:grinpimp: Have to travel for work next couple of days so had to push today and think it went well. When I get back have to clean and detail the hubs and start the install of all the bearings and gaskets. Hopefully can get waggy back up and running this weekend:beer::cheers:

Sexy:cool:

Make sure you tighten those bearings to spec. It's a real pain in the nuts to deal with a worn out bearing race on one of these axles. Ask me how I know:bang:

FF Axle Pics

This is the only difference I found between my USA SF axle and this non USA FF unit. The routing of the brake line drops farther down on the Aussie unit and the support tab is welded at the spring perch. Don't know if it's a year difference or the way FF are. No biggy, prolly just tack weld a nut onto the top plate of the u-bolt flip, or not:hmm::D I would have used the aussie brak line thqt came with the FF axle but it was crushed where it arches over the diff so that killed that idea. Besides the way I did it I did not open the brake system up to do this conversion:grinpimp: just left in tact and hung the backing plates from frame until I was ready to reinstall.

FF Axle

Thanks for the idea GLTHFJ60. I read lots of threads including yours and woody's with all the PITA stuff that went on with your FF units. That's why I resisted so long about buying a FF. I agree, set it up right, which should be no more difficult that the front axle and the biggy, getting a good used unit to start with. Figure most of the FF units are 20+ years old and you have to hope the PO took proper care of it! I got lucky on this one, just as good a shape as my original SF axle, Very happy about that!
