Decided to keep things simple with the PUMA and make a set of jumper cables for it. I had originally thought about making a mount for it or divorcing the motor from the tank and mounting it in a panel. However, after letting my neighbor borrow it to air up a tire yesterday, I'm glad I did it like this. I will find a box or something to store it in when I go on trips.

I see Raptor liner. You doing inside or outside?

Sweet. Mike was talking about a technique where you thin down liner and spray it on with nice gravity gun. Like an orange peel look.

Anyway, sounds really interesting to me.

Once I do some needed body work, the whole exterior is getting sprayed !

What color you going with?

If you are interested in some info on doing it with a gravity gun let me know. As Kelly said, it gives more of an orange peel finish versus the larger clumps. I think either would look good though. Gravity gun is the route I am going with. One of the guys at work paints and he is real interested in helping me tackle that project.

I'm going to find somebody to mix me up some factory white urethane based tint. Essentially, I want the color to match what's already on there.

Good call. I like the white.

It was a nice day to do some work on the truck so I decided to fab a few brackets and begin building a wiring harness for the ACR. I got the male portion of the harness attached and once I figure out the wiring I will make up the female side...........

The alternator went out on the wife's truck. Actually I'm not sure it was bad at all. I checked the belt tension before I started removing it and it was less then 40lbs. It may be that it just wasn't tight enough to run the pulley. Since I already had ordered a reman from rockauto I decided to do the right thing and install it in my truck. Then put the one from Moby into her truck. Everything's working great now and I figure the new alternator will do a better job at charging the dual battery system in my rig. Coincidentally if somebody wants a spare OEM alternator (may be working, may not) the core charge is $36 and you can have it for that, just let me know. I put a new brush holder in it in 2014 when I rebuilt the motor, everything worked fine up until last week.

Just about finished up with the dual battery system. Its taking forever to get things the way I want and get all the routing done up. Still need to run a wire from my ACR harness over to the starter. I've found when running errands that i'm maintaining enough charge on both batteries that the ACR never opens which means i'm starting from both batteries when I get back in the vehicle. One little wire should fix this. Here's the routing for the primary cable from starting battery to ACR and then on to secondary battery.....

Battery box back in place.....

Battery is a Johnson Controls 29DC from Walmart. I still need to do some cleanup with the cables, maybe fab a holder bracket or something other than the zip tie I'm currently using. I also have a relay box to install when I do my spare fuse panel. This should help clean up all that excess wiring your seeing at the back of the photo....

The ACR will work with only a single ground wire, if you want it to. I chose make use of the remote switch and later, the isolation function. Here is the harness I built for it....
IMG_0676.webp

There are six total wires out of the ACR. Of those one is a ground (mandatory) and 3 are isolation wires. You can run one of these to your starter input in order to keep the ACR open for starting, avoiding starting with both batteries.

The switch installed in the cab. This allows Auto connect, Manual connect (self jump, winching) or manual disconnect of the batteries....

Just need to fab up a few more brackets, paint them, then start connecting and cleaning up the wiring. First up is some heavy duty battery tie downs with a bracket for the winch solenoid.

The final bracket, I think. Surprisingly this one took some time to figure out as it is a somewhat difficult location to take measurements, especially one handed, as well as having a unique angle that must be incorporated into the arm. You can't really tell in the photo, but back about where my thumb is the arm makes an 11* twist towards the right....

Matched to interior Oak color....

All systems go ! The NL monitor is pretty slick and I'm looking forward to trying it out. Driving it like this for a while, If everything works out I will do some cable management to get everything cleaned up.

On to other projects....

So some time ago my wife's Honda Civic, our 3rd vehicle, decided to drop its timing belt. It had been a great vehicle for us for many years and has given us lots of good memories. The real downside though was the loss of a vehicle that gets 30+mpg and no longer being able to take my LC out of service for more "major" modifications. I have been hemming and hawing for months now looking for a suitable replacement. Finally the other day I found a deal I couldn't pass up. So, while everyone else was at the annual meeting, my buddy and I took a 3.5 hr drive up to Iowa to pick up Moby's new sister .........

Same motor as in my SC430, I think same front and rear suspension too. I have done several mods to braking and suspension. Rear tires can wear on the inside really bad, so watch that. We can discuss tricks. Club Lexus -- PPP (the pink panty place) is the best forum I have found.
