Hi all - my apologies if this specific case has been covered. I find lots of threads here & elsewhere on mixing grease - essentially the majority opinion seems to be "don't mix".

I have a '97 LC and am into the front axle for the first time in my ownership. It has dark grey grease in the knuckle/birf, looks like moly to my eye. I had already switched over my Toyota pickup to Redline CV-2 moly, which is red in color as well as name.

I'm only replacing a worn spindle bushing at this time and am not planning to tear the whole axle apart to the point I could clean out all the old grease.

Does anyone know if it is okay to mix these?

Thanks in advance!

Redline CV-2 is their general purpose grease primarily for high speed bearing service, etc. It does have some organic moly content but it can't be much as they don't even list it as a percentage of content. I use the CV-2 for bearings and general purposes but prefer the Amsoil moly fortified off-road grease for knuckles and other places where a moly fortified grease is called for. I wouldn't worry too much about mixing greases but the Amsoil is gray if that makes you feel better. 😂

Thanks for the quick replies, this confirmed the direction I was leaning. I picked up some Valvoline grey moly grease yesterday. Will switch my grease gun over and use all grey stuff for now. Even if the risk of mixing is slight, there is a risk and it's not worth it to me.

When the day comes for a full rebuild I'll re-evaluate.
