We had a great morning out with yall and Cheryl managed to find some more plants to drag home - always a winning day for her. Many thanks to @wngrog for pulling the ride together; I hope to have us full in for the next one instead of bailing after the morning. Really enjoyed seeing the deep cut-bank sections of gravel road we drove through; I'm always amazed at the tenacity of the trees hanging on for years in those sections. Nice to see a couple of folks it's been a while on and put faces to a whole lot more of you.

It was fun having both my Cruisers on the same trip. Greg and Katherine stuck to me through dust and all with John Gordon, Will and Berkley kept the back seats in the 100 occupied with Poptropica, Mindcraft and other battles.

Just before we crossed the above bridge on Gordon Rd, I jumped out and got the entire Wagon Train in on shot.

This was the first time I really got a good look at JT's 80 after the spa treatment and I can say, it is beautiful. I hope Debbie gets CT to do this to Bessie......

Andy O was rassling a kid all day. He looked hella stressed at times. Next time I'll give him some pharmacy tips on how to make it a full day.

This is the look on Julie's face when Greg told her that he had bought the FJ-60 and was not just borrowing it for the day

One of my favorite spots on the Canton to Bentonia section is these massive trees on Steve Johnson road

Backroading in Yazoo County. We stopped to regroup at the next stoplight and an old lady on the road drove up and said a neighbor had called and said a row of vehicles had driven by and that it must be a funeral procession. She wanted to know who died and then proceeded to shake her head when we said we were headed to Bovina on backroads.

This field had a double row of electricity around it and white jugs in the trees. I got the wire for hogs, but no clue on the jugs in the trees.

Cox Ferry Road has a bunch of great twists and turns and old bridges. We stopped at this one to get shots of people crossing. I stopped Andy and his $70,000 truck right on the weakest span to get a photo for his insurance company.

At this point Will walked up to me wet to his knees saying JG had kicked a ball across a ditch. I sacrificed the 100 to take Greg across on the runningboard. WCT strapped me out with Bessie. Shoes were tied to the front bumper and off we went.

I wasn't that stressed. That is just what my face looks like. He actually was a trooper and if it wasn't one his best buddy's Star Wars party we would have kept on trucking.

Did GT really buy your 60?

No, that face was replaced with one of dissapointment. Actually, she just went back to sleep after that.

So then we worked our way out the long way to Bovina to check out the Open Spandrel bridge. The bridge was built in 1917 on the original site that the RR tracks crossed during the civil war. Lots of fighting in this area. The bridge is on the National Historic Register.

About the time Patrick told my oldest child to take off running across the bridge, my deaf old ass heard the train blowing at the Bovina road crossing and began to scream TRAIN! Berkley and Run PMc greeted the train. I failed on the initial picture....seeing it what seemed like 3' from Berkley was unnerving and I forgot to pull the trigger.

Piper has become quite the archer these days. She busted out the target under supervision of Captain SHUSH while Den Mom prepared her man a meal

IMG_4919-2851x2848.jpg

Will loved it up there. I got a great picture of he and Mason and Lilly on the south side but I deleted it after I saw what was painted behind his head. Even though he likely does not have a political future with me as his father, I would hate to have that picture resurface at any point in a confirmation hearing.

@wct49 Piper was really impressive!! I was watching in awe...... Definitely not supervising "katnes"!!

I see McLure's Melon head made the shot too.

I wanted to thank @wngrog for putting together a fantastic day of "overlanding". @Denmomdeb and I kept saying how much fun we had.
@SHUSH, Piper monster really is enjoying archery. Sorry that I screwed up the drone shots of the train and bridge. Complete and utter failure on my part.
I say it all the time but Cottonland from day one has opened up a new world to me. Before Cottonland I would never spent a day riding back roads. @euclid thank you again for pulling me over at the Krystal years ago.

Love this club and the people in it

@wct49 thats hilarious. Just spit my beer out through my nose.

@pmccraney Patrick, there is no pleasing @wngrog

I didn't tell your kid to take off running, you moron. Love this revisionist history. I was the only one that climbed the damn kudzu mountain to make sure the kids didn't off themselves (rob is excused) and I get a bad rap. Geez. Tough crowd.

Where's Patrick?

Just now getting to a place where I can post a few things. The 200 has been overlanding in its familiar habitat since we left Onward: shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, etc :)

Really enjoyed the weekend. Thanks again to the Grogans for having us Friday night and cooking a great meal. The ride Saturday was great...really glad Jenny got to finally make one. She had a great time and will be tagging along more often now.

You guys have a great group. Thanks for letting us tag along.

126 miles from Nolen's to Onward. 32 mph avg.

Thanks for that Andy. It was a lot of fun.

From Bovina Bridge we ran back up the same road we squirted out of the gravel roads on to hit the Bovina Bridge. We made it to the Redwood Waterfall and we got a close look.

Greg made sure the rope swing could handle the weight...(good man) and the kids gave it a whirl

It's great to have Greg on these things.....

Thanks Andy......

We left Redwood and hit Hwy 61 to Onward. Onward Store is the on the geographic location of the famous Teddy Roosevelt hunt. I grew up hunting near this place and it was a real dump. About 5 years ago the VanDeavener family purchased it and rehabbed it. It is not a nice restaurant with Non-Ethanol. We grabbed a few souvenirs and hit the road for Delta National Forest.

At this point I am really glad Andy was not there because the GPS would have looked like a drunken sailor. I have scouted the route through Delta National Forest already but I really did not want to backtrack from Onward back to Valley Park to get started so I Google Mapped a route that would let us go north a couple miles and head across into the forest. Well, that road did not have a bridge. I then tried to come into the other road from the north and that road did not have a bridge either.

I finally gave up and backtracked.

We drive in on Dummy Line Rd and then headed up north through that National Forest. 60,800 acres of bottomland hardwoods. Spectacular. This is our destination in April.

The exit from Delta National put us on blacktop through Holly Bluff to Louise Mississippi home of Hong Grocery and world famous Hoover Sauce.

Julie and Run PMc were particularly enamored with this place. I will let PMc type his side since he hates my improv

Goodbye Louise.....

IMG_4981.jpg

Finally, we made our way via Old 5 mile Rd from Louise to the Sunflower River Levee down to HWY 149 and Hines Grocery.

Hines Grocery was just a lunch spot and HQ for Hines Farm for years and years until it flooded out in 2011. After that, the daughter Tracy and her husband John reopened it and remodeled. 2 years ago they expanded to dinner on Friday and Saturday night.

Good food. Good ending to a great day. Love my Cottonland buddy's. We started with 15, ended with 9. I cataloged about 240 miles for the day. Long day. We made it back about 7:45.......11 hours after we left.
