checked out the bag of tools in the compartment in the right rear of my LX today. The rods to drop the spare tire are missing. Is that a universal Toyota kit or something specific I’d need to get?

for an LX the tool may be different than a Landcruiser
IIRC my 99 LX used the lock nut "key" to fit in the spare carrier to drop the tire. I ended up switching it out to a Landcruiser setup that used the hook

I had to remove the "security key" from the spare tire winch. Once that was gone, the kit from my Sequoia fit perfect.

The toolkits are the same. At least with a 2000lc vs 06lx.

Tools are still available from Toyota and Lexus Parts Dep.

Some do switch out, to non keyed carry. If old carried keyed, and very rust. That's one good option. But if carry in good condition, easier to buy the key.

If you need a key, for spare tire hanger. Which some do (LX & LC), some don't. Dealerships have a master set of keys. You can use it, to find yours and then order proper key. They also have wheel lock, master key sets.

I purchase one tool set, bag and key. For someone that never came to pick-up. Still sitting around here somewhere. The key is the #52.

The hook end is used for both carrier and bottle jack. So it's a must have. Even if keyed.

You'll know if key need by look at carrier

Non keyed, Hook extension works on.

You can also remove keyed cone, and revert back to hooked. Or make hook type keyed. It's just and insert.
