Misc Pig Issues - door lock, windows, dome light

What I have found on my driver's door however is that the button on the outside of the door does not release the star wheel on the door to "spin" so you can ope the door. So I have taken to leaving the rear door unlocked, reaching in the DS rear door and opening the DS front door from the inside. Somewhat of a pain in the a$$ you might say!

Have people tweaked their door mechanisms to solve this problem?

If so, what worked? What didn't?

Not seeing any answers, I opened up my drivers door and discovered that the stub connected to the outer door button has quite a gap before it reaches the metal plate surface inside the door to activate the release of the star wheel.

I was tempted to bend the plate closer to the outer part of the door, but not knowing what that mechanism looked like (or how easy it would be to break it) I opted instead to remove the outer door handle and run a few threads on the stub, thread a nut on a few turns (w/ loctite) and see if that additional length will unlatch the door drom the outside.

No pics.

I'll keep you all posted as to how it worked...

x2 - how did you wire it?

It was pretty easy- there is one red wire running from the light. I snipped it, and lengthened both parts of it so that each part would run to the switch location. then I connected both ends to my toggle switch, pulled the dash piece and mounted the switch there. (it was tricky because I only pulled the dash out a little - to avoid unhooking the heater controls. Then, I had to close the circuit on the light, I did that with a bit of solder to jump the little terminals inside the dome light. it was a little tricky because the plastic wanted to melt.

Very cool!

Question - could you have just turned the switch to the "On" position to skip soldering inside the dome light?

I am kind of surprised by the lack of responses on this.

I am guessing this could be due to:

a) This is not an issue to very many folks,

or

b) It is a bad idea to ask multiple questions in one thread.

Anyway, I am wondering if this could be due to PO pressing door button forcefully while the door is locked? This might bend the linkage, no?

Does anyone have a picture of the inner mechanism of the Pig front door connecting the outer handle button to the star wheel?

TIA,
