aussie lockers are lots of bang for the buck. You will know it is there that is for sure. I have lived with an aussie locker in my DD for the past 8 years or so. I would not put one in the front if I were you though. It will be tough driving on the road in 4wd in the winter. You are better off in a DD with an arb up front.

Manjerk- couldnt agree more.

Im going to go with a Aussie locker in the rear, and someday i may put an ARB air locker in the front.

- Havent been to a meeting in ages. you been to any?

cheers-

Milo

Let me know if/when you plan to install it. I'll be happy to help. It takes a little bit of head scratching the 1st time, but it's super easy to install.

I haven't been to a meeting in a while. I've got class on Tuesday nights now typically. I haven't done much wheeling in a while either. :crybaby:

Thanks Man Jerk- i'll let you know for sure when i do the locker.

hey have you done a knuckle job on a 60 before? I'm thinking i need to do the knuckles before i do anything else.

Fj45 350 v8

I might just have to join your cruiser addiction and one up you with this FJ45 Chevy 350.:flipoff2: Can't wait to pass you up I-70:cheers: Your not getting a huge head start this time so you pretty much better throw some nitrous in that FJ60.

I like the 2F, yours is running so well now! I wish this truck was 100% original but if it was I couldn't afford it anyway so I guess it's a win win.

Going to have to follow you on the lift, and some 33" KM2s would be real nice + some blizzaks.

Facility used?

Hey brother, where did you do your suspension replacement? Was it done on post? Looks a whole lot like one of the military self-help auto centers. I recently did my suspension swap at the Sprockets auto center on Ft Hood here in Texas. PB Blaster! I went through a few cans of the stuff replacing my 20+ year old suspension.
For you civilian types, Sprockets is an automotive self-help center on Fort Hood. For $5 per hr soldiers can access a lift bay, tool room, weld shop, order parts from local shops as well access help from the certified mechanic staff. Its all DIY and after the gyms, one of the most used facilities on post. Not sure which is a better perk, Sprockets or the GI Bill.

Hey Milo...nice looking work. I know this thread is a few months old, I was just wondering how the intake/exhaust manifold paint is holding up. I have mine out right now for an engine rebuild and am contemplating paint but I don't want the burnt/flaking paint look over time. I wire wheeled it and it looks pretty good.

On a side note, gotta love the military auto centers. I pretty much did a full resto on a 78 Bronco at the Navy auto hobby center in Lemoore, CA about a decade ago! Looks like you're about 30 minutes from me now if you are still in Springs. When I get mine back on the road it would be cool to check yours out in person. Take er easy.

Did a bit o' work to her recently, basically shoring up leaks and some minor cosmetic stuff

New Oil pan gasket:

P9220467.jpg

^^ RTV'ing the new cork gasket on, used a multi pack of clamps from Lowes to hold the gasket in place, let it dry overnight, then put the pan up.

Inside the pan, there were some globs of original RTV, dunno why or if they were there to seal something, but i re coated each spot with fresh RTV

old RTV:

Cool stamping on the block:

when the pan was out, i painted it & and the flywheel inspection cover

think it came out alright :grinpimp:

at the same time, i did my fuel pump gasket, because the old one looked like this:

it crumbled into pieces when i pulled it out, needless to say my FJ60 leaks alot less

*FWIW-Pure Theory and Conjecture

What seem to be strategically placed globs of rtv in the base of most of the '60 series F engine oil pans..
P9220468-1.jpg

My old Shop Manager got mad when we would clean those out. He stated that a Toyota Engineer said they were there as a means to have a point of buildup for sludge and debris to collect and stop the small stuff from going right up into the oil pickup screen. Seriously, look at the path of the pickup versus likely oil flow and how that could be entirely reasonable in an ideal and magical Toyota Geek Engineer's Mind.

:meh: It's where the weld spots for the skid on the pan are..wouldn't the oil prevent it from rusting? Was Toyota worried their spot welds would pinhole leak from the center point, or if the skid were to be torn/knocked off it could leak, who knows..

Then again, isn't that what a good filter and reasonable driving is supposed to do? :D

My logic: the engineers had to afford food to go with the rice, so if it make's them last longer, why not? :D

Superstition or not, I never questioned that it took an extra hour-half of paid time to do them again after we tanked it. (Glue Setup Time before coming into contact w/ oil.)

I love this sort of old rumor stuff. ;) :flipoff2:

^^ Yeah i have no idea why those are there from the factory, other than like you stated- to perhaps seal up where the skidplate was spot welded

either way, i re-sealed all of those points with fresh Toyota RTV
