Oh, and Sean, he called me yesterday afternoon to ask how I wanted to mount the seat belts and if I wanted him to drill the holes. I asked him to weld some tabs to put the belts on so I didn't have to drill any holes in the cage. He liked that idea and he said you can get the shoulder belt bolts from an auto part store. But he did mention you can only get them in sae not metric. I laughed and asked him how many bolts on my truck he thought were sae.

Good news. Found out that 7/16 fine thread works!!!! Man I'm ready for some :steer:!

...
In this old picture of Eric's rig, you can see what the two hoops looked like together. I wound up with the rear-most hoop from Eric (thanks Eric  )...

Ouchie.... wonder who took that pic? ;)

Wonder who's rig that was for? I tell you I miss that MF.

...I never liked the way they did the pipe in that rig. A bunch of "booger welds" also

Yours looks awesome bud

Where did you find that rig my mind fails me? I do like that pic 40's in tall grass and in a Cane field look  Hell they cool just about everywhere :D That pic was for Christmas cards in 2007 we went riding after I got the Turtle road worthy. Good times :) I left Marty some oil in his driveway because he wasn't home to join the ride

I found that picture in the post a pic of your rig thread. I just knew that's where the hoop came from.

As for the construction, JD is a master and a perfectionist. I went by his house today and it's coming along nicely. The cage is complete, just have to drill a few more holes in the floor to be able to bolt it in. The welds look great to me. He did not use a wire fed weld.....I don't know what he called it but it looks better than anything I have ever soldered.

He took the rear bumper apart, moved the spare over to the driver's side along with moving the pivot to the driver's side and will be building the jerry can basket tonight and in the morning. He says he should have it back to me by Friday. Also, I did not know this until today, but he also builds auxillary fuel tanks. He builds them out of aluminum. That is something that is on my list of must haves and I know someone here was looking for one. Maybe we can get him to crank out a couple of these for us. :grinpimp:

Stopped over at JD's to see what was going on and this is what I found!!

RearCarrier.jpg

I am getting more anxious by the day to get this thing back from him. He just needs to finish off the lock / latch for the tire carrier, mount the winch plate on the front and he is making me a mount for my camera on the dash bar. Should have it back in a day or so.

best ya don`t upset:princess:ya might have to ride in that ventilated new rear seat in this weather ya will b coolin a lot more than your heels:D

What size tubing is he using for the cage?
Its looking really good.

Well, it's a lob-lolly of tubing really. It's the Metal Tech profile cage in the front, the oem hoop in the center and the aftermarket hoop that I got from Larry which came from Eric's rig. I think he used 2" tube for that rear piece and he just put in "A" to "B" supports to triangulate it and strengthen it.

Here's a picture of the "A" to "B" supports:

Now that JD is all done, I am picking it up in the morning. Next project is to sand and paint the truck and the cage.

How did the rear protection turn out? Is it as "protectful" as you had hoped?

Man that looks great Mike, i might have to give him a call for a rear bumper and some slider.

Oh yeah!! Everyone will be quite protected in the front or rear now.

Give him a call. He does great work. Turned out to be a little more than I was thinking but I did keep going over there and ask if we could do this and add that......kinda like being in the casino with no windows or clocks, you don't realize how much you've spent until you try to leave and they give you the bill.
I learned a lesson.....give him a list and don't go back or ask questions until he says he is done. Then make you're next list and start saving $$.
