Had no idea where to post this since it's not really mechanical tech.

A couple months ago my Toyota parts manager (Ralph Hayes Toyota) called me and said Toyota was selling all their old micro fiche. I told him I wanted all of what they had for cruisers. I'm assuming this was the fiche that was from the beginning to 1970.

They didn't have a lot available but I got everything they had shown in stock.

What I have.

Feb 1961 FJ40,43,45 (1 of 1)

July 1963 FJ40V (1 of 1)

Jan 1965 FJ40, 40L, 42L, 43, 43L (1 of 2, 2 of 2)

Feb 1965 FJ40V, 40LV, 45V, 45LV (1 of 1)

July 1967 FJ40, 40L, 42L, 43, 43L (1 of 2, 2 of 2)

Nov 1967 FJ40, 40L, 42L, 43, 43L (1 of 2, 2 of 2)

Nov 1967 FJ55LG Part# 93661-67 (1 of 2, 2 of 2)

Nov 1967 FJ55LG Part# 93662-67 (1 of 2, 2 of 2)

Those last two have got me wondering why they would have two sets for the same month. Maybe something changed. They do look different.

My question is how in the heck can I get them scanned and in a .pdf format? Is it worth the trouble?

The kicker was I got them all for $25.

if you goto a library...you can get them copied to paper form...alot of pages however...something like 300-400 each right?

after you have the hardcopy....then you can scan them in.

do they have machines that go right to scan now?....you may want to ask at your local library

edit...just looked online and there are digitized copyers for micro

I would pay you the cost you paid for all of them just for the 61. I would at least like a copy. I have a fiche reader for the one FJ25 fiche I've got. Might check with Rob-Landcrusher909. I think he already has a 1965 on a CD. I'm also curious about the Nov 67 FJ40 fiche. Does it cover the 68 model. Padded dash would be an easy way to tell. Keep us updated and let us know if you need any help.

I'd be interested in buying copies of a few of those as well.

Thanks for doing this. It wil help us out with with information on our early cruisers. You didn't happen to check the Nov. 67 FJ40 fiche to see if it had the padded dash.

If when your done My offer still stands on buying the 61 fiche.

Thanks, John

No way I can read it. I'm having someone scan it for me.

x2...thanks for doing the leg work on something that hopefully a great deal of people will hopefully be able to benefit from :beer::beer:

He is working on an FTP site for the mods. So this might be in the cards. I would think fo now you could just e-mail him.

That being said. I tried to have my studio that does photography scan them. Even at 2500dpi they looked like turds. SO I called the library. Turns out they have several Micro Fiche scanners that are hooked to a computer. Just had to bring in a usb drive and took me 30min to figure out that it was a manual kind of job. I have to scan every page. Ended up only getting about 30 min before the library closed. Gonna take a whole weekend to do all 13. Some pretty cool stuff though.

These are a few I saved as jpegs just as an example.

Never knew about the single winch roller.

The scanner allows me to save the whole slide as one big PDF. I only got about about 25 pages in before I had to pack up.

It's in there page 110 of the parts book. ;)

Funny the mico looks like it's just a scan of the book.

That's a lot of friggin work if you scan all that Marshall.

So does this mean someone has already scanned the book?

This is the test PDF I did last night.

Maybe a lot of work but I think it would be cool to have 7 parts books all back from the 60's all in one place for future reference. If I had a book I'd chop the spine off and run it through my scanner at work. I could create a PDF in about 10 min that way.

I know that the 25 fiche is a copy of the book, however it is literally a photograph.........comic book spy-cam stuff.

Your test looks as good as the original fiche, but sometimes that quality was pretty poor.

If the pages are semi transparent like my early stuff, it is a royal PITA to get a decent scanned image without the reverse of the page showing through. Chop the spines off, scan 'em and sell the remains to John P. :hillbilly: Here's what I was playing with:
www.yankeetoys.org - /cruisernerd/images/IH8MUD/Lit/1958Parts/
www.yankeetoys.org - /cruisernerd/images/IH8MUD/Lit/1960Parts/
Oh yeah, all the '58-'61 FJ TSB's:
www.yankeetoys.org - /cruisernerd/images/FJTSB/

It would be really nice to get these all in one place, I'll take a look around and see if I can get the 25 fiche done.

Thanks.

Can anyone confirm the quality of the printed parts book. Does it show better detail.

Just want to know before I mess with cleaning the images up.

This is what the image size actually is and after running it through photoshop.

Despeckle, cropped, rotated, posterized

Warning it's a big image! But you can see it says Toyota Motor on the screw drivers.

Maybe I wasn't clear, the books are much better quality than the fiche, if you want nice crisp images and can handle scanning them, thats the way to go. Look at the few scans I did.

So how does one go about buying old land cruiser parts fiche? Not from the parts guys. He would tell you we don't have anything listed for pre 3/69. Then the young person behind the counter would ask. "Where you got a land cruiser that old. Toyota didn't even make the land cruiser before that". That hasn't happened yet but close:bang:
