Sportsman's guide has used swiss nato cans for $13 bucks, and new isreali nato cans for 14 ech, and they have fast and reasonable shipping. I just bought two of the israeli ones, and I have a swiss can too, that has a spiffy fuel-type identifier card is a cool gaget.

The fillers are a little sucky., though.

I just bought 2 cans and one nozzle with shipping the total was $40. One is in almost new condition and the other needs a little cleaning, but it sounds like I need to paint them anyway. Spout looks OK to me, though.

Here is the real scoop. If you want to carry gas in cans, you want the Wedco metal cans. They do not leak, not even vapors. They are perfect, so of course they are not legal in California, so you have to have them shipped to an out of state address. I have Spressomon in Reno to thank for mine.

Do not even bother with the California complient cans. They leak like a mofo and suck totally. The Blitz cans also suck. Do not bother. They are fumey-carry them outside only. All of the California complient cans suck so bad they should all be shoved up the *ss of the head of the California ARB.

Generator Joe is a very good source of the Wedco cans and spouts, but I've seen them other places as well. The Wedco cans are very similar to the Nato military cans but the spouts do NOT interchange. On balance, if cost is no object, get the Wedco cans and vented spout. They have an extra pin that assures the top will not get flipped open. I have carried these cans INSIDE with the entire family on board and no leaks/fumes at all.

Of the military cans, the very best are the Nato cans from Isreal, available new. They are as good or better than the Wedco cans. The problem is the spouts. All of the available spouts for military surplus cans are cheapo Chinese crap knockoff garbage. If you can find good spouts, especially the Swiss ones, they are like gold, so buy a few. It is the spout issue that will eventually lead you to the Wedco cans.

Bottom line-there is no downside to the Wedco cans with the Wedco spout. They are the best and highly reccomended.

And GeneratorJoe has them on hand with the spout, ready to ship.....talked with them a few hours ago.

Good folks.

Didja know that metal cans really really suck? Do you know what happens when you rest a metal spout on the carb, and then hit the ass end of the can on the battery post? BBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! Don't ask.....

After suffering for a few years with Blitz cans (I'm a slow learner), I bought some Swiss NATO cans from Sportsmans Guide about 7 years ago. They are awesome. Don't leak at all (or even smell). Gave my Blitz can to a (not so good) friend.

Looks like they are only $15 each at the guide, plus $7 for a spout.

Huh? What? Sorry man, can't hear out of this ear...:)

Have you tried colemans.com, or whatever the url is? they have a good selection of containers though I must admit I haven't paid attention to their fuel containers, just water.

I got some of the CARB compliant 'no spill' metal blitz cans at Home Depot for about $33 each. I also bought the plastic 6+ blitz can for $7. Much cheaper, lighter and easier to pour. Similar shape as the metal cans as well. I don't think it's possible to pour gasoline from any can and not have the can leak. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be???

The donkey dick nozzle on the bitz can is a horrible excuse for a fuel conduit.

Agreed!!!!!!!!!

Poser,

What is the major differences between blitz and NATO besides NATO being military and blitz being I guess a knock off?

I am no metal gas can expert. :D

Blitz which are older military style cans will leak if they are laid down or upside down, it in the way the vent id designed, Nato cans which are of German design wont leak in any direction, probably why NATO adopted them.
Nothin wrong with Blitz as long as you can keep them upright.

x2

My Blitz don't leak but I do double up on the gaskets, the fuel spout isn't worth the trouble, I am on number three.

Rezarf <><

blitz cans suck, period.

X2 I carry two Nato stamped date 1953 & 1954 for the last twelve countless trips to Death Valley to Deer camp in the Ruby's Mts sub 0 weather always flat on the roof rack NO LEEK"S.

Gave away all 8 of my leaky Blitz cans with extra new gaskets !

I'll second ESH's opinion on the military's polyethelene cans. They are awesome, I only have one, they aren't cheap, getting hard to find, and I wish I had more.
I think they are made by a Canadian company called "Scepter". These things are heavy duty, quiet, and if you get the right scew on spout, pour fast, and don't leak a drop!(don't know about how they woek with the old style screw on nozzles-but they should fit)
I found my can under a crashed airplane(somewhere where I shouldn't have been), but Specter, I mean $pecter Offroad carries them. I bought my pour spout there for $17.00 or so. The cans were listed at over $50.00...
