Looks like we're out guys. Weather appears to be a bit cold/wet for the wife and kids. If anyone wants my spot it's #003 and good for Fri/Sat. Have fun and I'll meet up with you guys some other time...

Too bad you cant make it, I'm sure we can make use of the spot, we hope the rain isn't going to be too bad, we will let you know how it goes!

What an awesome trip- thanks for putting this one together Justin. The river, the fishing, the company, and the Paia. Looking forward to pictures to come. I'll see if I can figure out how to put a few up too.

Well we had a great weekend, the weather on Friday and Saturday was absolutely perfect camping weather, barely a cloud in the sky which made for good fishing and hiking. We had 7 rigs make it up to Camp Nelson on Friday, and we all arrived with in about 30 minutes of each other. We set up our swag and a few headed over to fish the freshly stocked Tule River, and it didnt disappoint!

We stumbled across some wild Morel mushrooms and has a few mule deer roaming through camp all with the river rushing by about 20 yards away.

On Sunday we woke up and the sky's were a little darker and were expecting a little rain, so we decided to try and take a trail from the top of the mountain (21S94) back around to Camp Nelson. Once we got above 6,000 ft the light rain turned to snow which made the scenery absolutely amazing. We jumped in on the trail head and got about a mile in and came across out first obstacle, a fallen tree had crossed the trail, so we all jumped out fired up the chain saw and cleared the path. We made it about another mile plowing through leftover snow drifts that hadn't been touched all winter. We make it through several smaller ones then we got to a drift that started out about a foot deep and progressively got deeper, we made several attempts to punch through but only got about 100 ft before we decided we weren't going to make it past. Jon with the 1st Gen 4runner started noticing a misfire so he and Matt decided to head back to camp.

We ended up heading to an other trail I'd done before hoping we could get to the top of the Mountain. We made it about a hundred yards before we hit out first drift, so I punched through it after 4 or 5 attempts. The next rig was a modified XJ but had open diffs so he lost traction, so we tried track building and traction matts to get him through, but ended up winching him back out. Once we got him out we noticed a power steering leak, so he wrapped it up for the day.

And then we were down to 3, @slickdealmike @fjcha and myself decided to keep going. We made it about 100 yds and came across another tree and got busy clearing. We quickly found ourselves in a series of drifts and downed trees every 50 to 100 yds before we got to a section of snow, we decided we wouldn't make it passed so after 2 hours, half a dozen trees, and about a mile later we decided to call it and headed back to camp, but all in all it was a blast!

Driving back to camp the snow went from coming down pretty good to a light mist as we came down from 7,400 ft to 5,000 ft and were optimistic that it might just stay at the upper elevations. Right around 5:00 the light mist stared slowing down and turned into a beautiful gentle snow. It was a complete 180 from the previous days, but it made it absolutely beautiful.

Thank you to all that made it and hopefully we can do it again next year!
