I had mentioned to a couple of members about a very cool place I have been going for the last 6 years in the lower Sequoias where we stay at a little town called Camp Nelson (about 6 hours North). There is a small campsite we typically stay at that only has 13 sites called Camp Belknap Recreation.gov. The camp site is beautiful with towering 1,000+ year old Sequoias and the Tule river that runs through, with a small stream that splits off and also cuts right through the campsite. In the past it has had trout, but they are pretty dumb as they (from what I heard) have escaped from an upstream hatchery. There is an awesome hiking trail that goes all the way up to the top of the mountain (if you plan on taking all day) that goes along and crosses the river. I haven't spent much time exploring offroad trails but, I want to go do some exploring and find some new places.

We have typically done a guys trip, but would be open to having a open invitation to all those who would like to go. Since this is a hidden little gem and doesn't open until Memorial Weekend (Friday) it typically sells out in a couple days, but we can book up to 6 months in advance which is right around the corner. I have a reminder in my calendar to book sites in a couple of weeks since they sell out so quick. If we have anyone interested, I can book a group of sites together so we can take over a section of the site if not the whole thing. We typically try and squeeze 2 vehicles per spot since space is a premium (as you will see). I am already planning on getting at least 2 sites but can book as many as we have interest in.

Unfortunately they don't allow trailers, but they may allow something like the Falcon since it is shorter (but would have to check).

I fell in love with the place the first time I went, and have been going back ever since and I think anyone who goes would not be disappointed.

Very good possibility for us.

Let's get this on the 2019 Calendar!

Possibilty for me as well. I like the guys trip idea, since I will be takin the kids camping the weekend before. Would it be Friday to Monday?

I will probably have to at least bring FalcoTheOlders. I think I am out of Frank-only wheeling passes for a while after Coyote Flats and Pismo.

@landcruising Yes we typically do Friday to Monday and take extra advantage of the holiday weekend.

@elripster I'm not sure how to add this to the Calendar, I looked around but didn't see where it is?

Here are a couple of older pictures I found of Camp Belknap. Of course pictures don't do it justice.

I was able to book 4 sites at Belknap for Memorial weekend and we are able to have 2 vehicles per site so the first 8 rigs that RSVP will get spots. Looking forward to this weekend!

I'm in, let me know what I owe you. Thanks!!
Lets wait until we get a full committed list so we can split it up. So far its Myself +1 and @RET2, if we get 5 more Rigs it will end up being around $60/per rig for the weekend.

I just checked and there are still 4 additional sites available but they won't last Recreation.gov The 4 sites that I got are all in one area, so if you want your own spot i'd jump on them. The parking areas aren't real big nor level so we might have to get creative if we get several RTTers.
There are a few spots up there and probably some yellow post sites, but on Memorial weekend they disappear quick.

will the sites fit a trailer and a rig? are there more sites available?

i just read up on the site, looks like tent only ( no rv's) . would be a tough sell to get my whole herd in tents. Maybe it'll wind up being just me n the boy.

Yea, unfortunately its super tight in there and it would be hard to back a trailer in to most of the spots which is why they don't allow them. I had a tough enough time getting my RTT set up because it is so tight with trees and boulders. The camp spots I reserved are all in one area, so there is a good space to set up.

I got it on my calendar so count me in for me and my two kids, My wife will be working so just me and the kids. Hopefully someone else brings kids or I'll be busy catering to mine all weekend. Steam looks good for small trout looking forward to fishing and some hiking.

Carl, you and the kids will like it. There is an other group of guys going as well and some of them bring their kids, so you should be able to let them roam.

So this trip is filling up fast, I should have reserved more spots! So of the 8 rigs available for the trip I've got 5 hard commits so far leaving the last 3 up to the first that claim them. So far it is myself, @Surfnoverland, @RET2, plus 2 others not on Beach N Toys. So the next 3 rigs that hard commit get the last 3 spots. If there are those that want to go there is another site called Coy Flat that is about 15 minutes from Belknap and there are still several sites available if there is enough extra interest.
