thermostat housing

Anybody ever changed out thermostat housings on a 62?
The top part of housing has a couple of sensors that have to be
screwed out of the old and put in the new housing. One is for VSV or
something and has two vacuum lines attached to it. I can not get the
thing screwed all the way into the new housing. Any ideas or tricks?

It dosnt have to screw in all the way. Just wrap the threads with teflon tape and snug it down.

The lower thermostat housing has a toyota gasket that fits between the housing and the engine block. The FSM does not give any info on this so I am wondering if I should add RTV along with the toyota gasket? In general if there is supplied gasket is that enough or am I supposed to add RTV? Where there is info in the toyota FSM they do not address adding RTV but many people on mud seem to. Thanks for the help guys.

Since I can not get the old thermostat housing apart due to broken bolts I am having to guess about putting it back together. I have a four gaskets that CDan sent me. One goes between lower housing and block, the other goes between upper and lower housing. I have another package with a circular gasket and have seen a picture where it goes on top of thermostat, but for some reason I have two gaskets. Where does the other one go? FSM is of no help.

Here I go again with questions. After seeing Todd F. thread of his project on his 80 I feel like
a complete idiot when it comes to car mechanics, so here goes.

When installing water hoses to metal fittings is there anything other than placing them on and
then using a hose clamp to tighten them down that needs to be done? I remember reading about
someone placing an adhesive of some type. Does that need to be done?

Thanks

Too late. It appears to be a common sentiment around here.
Can Greg really be that wrong?

Here is another question, does this look like a timing gear gasket leak
should I fix it now or later and how involved is it?

It's a 20 year old car. It's gonna leak.

Have you thought about getting in to MG's? Nash metropolitan's?
