So, started Leila up this morning to take the recycling. Of course, I had to do my certified truck driver pre trip inspection. Is fuel leeking out of the bottom of the fuel pump ok?

A: where do you get a good fuel pump?
B: should I ax it and go electric?

I got a replacement from American it was around $150 maybe less. When I got it they said it was one of the last twelve, but that might of been in country at the time. Worth a call though.

I have also heard a rumor that some times Napa will sell you the same brand that Toyota sells, but that could be hit or miss. Also might look for an F or 2F being parted out. SOR has used for $25

I have heard of people pulling the electric ones that previous owners installed and going back to the mechanical. A positive thing about an electric is that it will be off the block, so it will stay cooler, which helps prevent vapor lock, but you have other issues if that is a concern.

Go mechanical. No pressurization issues, no wiring. The mechanicals are available from a bunch of sources and it's plug and play. Just make sure you reuse the composite spacer, if equipped, because it'll die a quick death otherwise.

Plug and play... Gotta like that!

That could work too; I have a 72 F. I'll try to snap a pic.

Ron, I have an old mech one here. I am not sure, but I would guess it is for an f engine. If you post the pic, I can see if it is the same. I also have a few boxes of other stuff to look though.

Looks like the same one I found. Not sure if it works, but you can try it if you want. Looks like this one was rebuilt? you can see quite a few gaskets put in on the second pic. Of course it use some cleaning too.

It's definitely an F.
I am pretty sure I have a pump like that, sounds like Rudy does, too. I may be in Coralles on Friday and can bring one with me if you want.

As for me, I don't forsee much running around like I usually do. I have some work to get done at KAFB, so I will be stuck in that are for while, weather permitting. # to call, since i won't be around a computer during the days is two-five-9 three-1-sixtynine. Hopefully, either David's or my pump will work for you. I can usually find a place to leave to to if that works.l

If it does have extended shackles, I bet you need shims under the front axles. Mine droive the same way after I lifted it. Felt just like a truck with too much weight in the rear the way it wanted to corner itself. Shims fixed all of it for me.

Just realized the year on the original post... oops :D. Well if you still have steering issues, I stick by my shim suggestion ;)

Yup, i have the shims and definitely need to get em in.

You already met your quota for the FJ40 project for this year. Let's put the shims in, say 2013? :flipoff2:
