Since moving from WA to MO last spring, I was looking for a beater truck to use around the new property. Hauling firewood, brush, leaves, junk etc. Something nimble and simple. Having other Toyotas around, an older Toyota pickup was a natural choice. This one popped up on FB not too far away. Advertised as an 85 that I could drive home. I took my trailer anyway. Turned out to be an 86 with a 22r. Beat the guy down on price and took it home.
It came out of Arkansas, and the PO's name was Dave, plus it has the exact same paint scheme as my buddy Dave in Seattles FJ60 (@NookShneer ). So Arkansas Dave it was.
Did I mention Arkansas Dave is one classy truck? The interior was sinfully filthy. The bed was full of misc car parts, whisky bottles to match the whisky dents on the body, beer cans, cigarette butts, gear oil bottles and power steering bottles. There was also a receipt in the glovebox from the time someone was desperate enough to buy a Jiminez 9mm from a pawn shop on credit at 7:30 on a Tuesday morning at 300% interest. Super classy. I'm absolutely positive this truck has had all of it's schedule maintenance right on time over it's 326k mile life and has never been abused .
It ran so I changed the oil and put it to work..
It got stuck in the woods too much so some improvements were made in the traction department.
Now I am starting to really like the darn thing. I think it needs to be roadworthy and plated. It may even need to make an appearance in the "Missourah Endurah" (Gambler 500). I have started collecting parts and have made a few repairs already. More to come..
