Maybe I'm still missing a part?

Thanks to Pappy and Eric at Yotamasters, I now have two of the plastic tailgate torsion bar guides that I was looking for a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm still missing something. As you can see from the photo, the one end will bolt onto the frame (broken original one still attached) but there is obviously something missing from the other end as it's a couple inches or so away from resting on anything and there's nothing in sight to bolt that end to.

I can't figure anything out from the Toyota DYI diagrams.

I had the same problem... I think when the break, the torsion bar then hits the little bracket that holds the other end up (and won't open all the way), so people just rip them off (spot welded probably) and forget about it....

I cut a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe to the right length and ran a long bolt through the floor then the pipe and down through the plastic guide... Good luck!

looks like you will have to fab something up!

Thanks for the photo. I need to clean a bit of red mud off and see where that was attached.

Just another something to chase down. I think I keep this 85 around just for the scavanger hunts!

Can anyone with a 1st gen 4Runner take a quick pic of what their torsion bar guide is mounted to (see first pic in thread)? I'm just getting around to addressing this issue and I've forgotten what the missing bracket looks like.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I just bought a door and fender from California Mini Truck so I phoned them this morning and explained what I wanted and they are going to cut one off and send it to me. It's just one of those things that I have put off doing for months.

No problem. I appreciate the effort. I sent them the pic from my first post and told them I needed the bracket that was missing from the pic. That was all the information that they needed.
