Upate....well the motor went to the machine shop awhile back and ended turning the crank .010. Number 2 piston scored the cylinder wall so that bore went to.020. Other than that everything checked out pretty well and cleaned up nicely...a little honing, little resurfacing and a fair amount of $$$'s. I brought it back from the machine shop yesterday and thought I'd snap a few pics before I had it all buttoned up again. Progress is slow but it is progress no the less...

Those are some purty pictures!!!

After 3-4 hours of wrestling, me (and dog) vs engine install with the trans and tcase already in, know I know why people pull them all out, motor is in. Had a scare the previous night as I went to adjust the valves. From TDC, I could rotate 90 degrees in one direction ...then clunk..bring it back to TDC rotate in the other direction 270 degrees then clunk. Sounded like some big metal colliding down low...resonated some in the oil pan. Dropped the pan, the casting of the new Melling oil pump was hitting the crank by No 3 rod. Pulled the oil pump machined a little of the cassting down, reinstalled it and it's all good now. Buttoned it back up and here was we stand right now. The only thing I am waiting on to complete is the sheave for the PS pump. Should be here today or tomorrow. Ran a bunch of errands this AM and I can kill a few hours putting all the misc stuff back in and around the motor, so when the sheave arrrives...it will be go time.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on the oil pump?!? I would go back to the machine shop and confirm this is the correct p/n for this application. Why didn't they give it a test spin?

What is the sheave for the PS pump? I am not familiar with this term...

PS: did you have the shop fix the oil galley plug?

It is ALIVE !!!!! BWAAAAA !!!! and running very well I might add. To answer some of your questions...the machinist spun the motor after each piston was installed, he then bolted in the pump and oil pan and called it a day. He didn't spin it after putting the pump in...When I discovered this the next day, I went back in and he drove out to the house with me, dropped the pan and made sure I was happy. No clunk...I'm happy. Although it is a little unnerving re: the Melling pump casting.

Sheave=pulley for the saginaw pump.

Check on the gally plug.

Time to hit the showers...have a cheese steak and some cold :beer: :beer: :beer:

....now it crawls on it's fat pig belly too :deadhorse: :eek: no leaks, power steering nice and smooth, all gauges working as they should, ran across a spare choke cable and put it in :idea: Much of it's rusted under belly was swept of the garage floor. Need to address a few minor items and one major one (the brakes) and then it will be onto major rust removal and slider booty fab. It will be nice having this thing mobile. I'll go out on a limb but I believe, it's a gimme from here that this will be ready for next years CMCC and ECPR. :popcorn:
