So here we are 3 wheeling seasons later... I wanted to report back on the project.

The fabbed up shift linkage for the toybox has worked without difficulty. I ended up having to fiddle with the hole in the tranny cover because when the truck got twisted up it would sometimes hit the lever and pop the toybox out of gear.

The combo is not quiet on the road. I attribute this partially to inadequate sound insulation. I have not spent a lot of time trying to get the shifter boots for the twin stick and the toybox to be sealed up nicely. A direct hole down through sure does allow a ot of noise throug, even if it is a very small hole. And with the additional moving parts ther is bound to be more noise to try to keep out.

And I am loving the low low. I would have trouble deciding to switch to any other truck without some low low in a similar range.

I've run a Toybox with an H41 for 7-8 seasons now. I don't think it's any louder than without the toyobox. Not sure why it would be louder for you. Between the wheezy 2F, the MudTerrain tires and the windows open, I cant say I notice the drive train! If you want to experience whining, run a 3 speed t-case behind an SM420. Then it's a whole opera of whining.

What I've found, and maybe you're the same, is that I rarely use the t-case low range. I just run the Toybox in low, and that's enough for most of what I'm doing. Stupid low is usually just to creep past some body mashing rock or tree where there isn't any room to bounce around.

I wish Marlin still made these, because it is superior in every way if you want to stay with mostly Toyota stuff.

This is probably ToyBox low, TC high.

This one is WAY too long and the sound is annoying as hell (turn it down). Skip to 4:00 to see low-low. The hill is pretty steep.

Mark's videos show well the advantages of really deep gear reduction. Notice how his body doesn't bounce around at all. It's those bounces that send you into trees and rocks. In low low, you can get out and spot yourself (almost!) leaving the truck in gear.

And without the bouncing stuff doesn't break as easily.

And most of the time I have no feet on the gas, brake or clutch pedals... just idling along. A little blip of the gas here and there to get over a particularly big climb - although it doesn't really change much speed-wise.

So much want. I guess the only hope for one of these is a used one? Which is probably never going to happen.

If enough people pestered Marlin, he might do another run. It's only the adapter plates and a shaft. The other stuff he still makes.

If I were doing this again for a dedicated wheeler, SM465/Toybox/Split case would be a pretty solid combo.

Well in that case, anyone reading this thread want to annoy Marlin for a group buy? lol. How much did these go for when he was selling them if you don't mind me asking?

I think $1800 new
