When I bought my 94 FZJ80 a few years ago, it had relatively new OME shocks and springs. They were decent, but a few years into ownership, they were torn to shreds and wreaking havoc on my tires and ride and drive quality. Funny enough, the rear shocks were blown out and the front had help up OK.

Decided to go ahead and replace front and rear with new shocks and springs and shopped around a bit. Didn't really want to go OME again--my experience hadn't been great--and I felt they were a bit on the pricey end.

I decided to go with Dobinsons, an Australian off-road company, that does business in the US also. I live in Miami and they have a location down here so I decided to pull the trigger and went with heavy all around.I bought the C59-166 in the front and the C59-269v in the rear, which is a progressive spring. I bought the standard Dobinsons twin tube shocks to pair with the springs.

First, the price is fantastic. Substantially cheaper than what I was quoted to replace with OMEs. Most importantly, the ride quality is incredible. It is smooth when I am on the highway and rugged with good give and a rebound when I took them light off-road. So glad I am done bouncing all over the place and shaking everywhere.

If anyone is thinking of replacing their shocks and springs, I would definitely have a look at this company. At 20-30% cheaper than OME and in my usage so far, better than OME as well. I will post some more pictures up soon.

If anyone wants the contact info for the Dobinsons guy in Miami, shoot me a PM. Want this to be a review, not an ad.

What was the cost for 4 springs & shocks? How much lift did it give you? Thanks.

$890 for four springs four shocks caster bushings and steering damper.

Lift was 45mm. They have different sizes but i stuck w the same thing I had with the OME for the left.

Is this the 2" lift?

I'm a fan my brother in law got the mmr kit for his gx and let me tell ya it is outstanding!! I'm goi g to ditch the ome setup and go with one of the dobinson setups next year at some point

Sorry for reviving a dead thread but I am going to go with the mrr and vt coils. It sad to know that there is a bunch of people who dont know of dobinsons. And thus are stuck with OME which are from good.

Lol. I don't know what you guys expect, but I'll stand up for OME. FWIW I've had a good experience with them.
Is there better? There always is, yeah?
Does it work? Yes
Is it robust? Hell yes
Can they be found at reputable shops? Yes
Do the shops stand by them? Yes
Do black springs match better than robin egg blue?
I've nothing against Dobinsons (or the others) and might even tickle that fancy one day when ride quality makes its way up the priority chain. lol

Shocks are where it matters. OME shocks are some of the worst for ride. Nothing wrong with OME coils though, pair them with good shocks and they are just fine.

Cheers

I think many in the Land Cruiser business know about Dobinsons. My opinion is they pass because of that horrendous color.
Edit* some rigs look good with those coils. And my 7yo daughter asked if she can have a pair to match her my little pony doll. 🤣

Yes, my OME coils are great with Fox shocks. OME shocks were not good.

I would not buy Dobinsons coils just because of that hideous color, what were they thinking...🤮

...I imagined my daughter asking to have matching “toys”. I couldn’t get passed the Dobinson color either.
