but IMHO, starting with the 100 and continuing with the 200, the truck just got to be too much of a whale to take on the really tough stuff.

You forgot to include the 80-series. It is a whale too and simply can't hang with a built Cherokee or smaller vehicle. You say serious wheeler and show Rubicon pictures. A STOCK Jeep Wrangler Rubicon will bury any built 80-200 series on the precious Rubicon Trail. Let's be honest with ourselves? The day I see an 80-200 complete the trails a Cherokee can......oh boy!

80 = Whale also (It's just the 80-200 rarely bust)

Please point out where in my post I ever mentioned a Jeep product? We were not discussing Jeeps. We were discussing Cruisers.

Someone once made the comment about your revisionist method of debate, here's a prime example.

Get a life. Be honest with yourself. AN 80 IS A WHALE ALSO (JUST LIKE A 100 AND 200). You show the 80 as an example of a Rubicon Trail machine in your pics. IT IS NOT. It's a whale too. If you want to show a Rubicon Trail wheeler, show a Jeep, a 40, or something smaller than an 80-200 whale. Thanks!

Oh cool, thanks for the insight. Did you have trouble in your 80 or 100 when you ran the Rubicon?

Mine and many other 80s do just fine on that trail. I4C4LO's 100 struggled a bit, but his superior driving skills (and a lot of Hi-Lifting) pulled him through. Been there, done that, unlike you. But, I guess there's no real point in arguing with you, since you're never wrong.

"The 80 is a whale."

There. Are your small penis and deflated sense of self-worth now satisfied?

Dang....the 80-lovers never cease to amaze me. They hold that precious Series apart from all others.

When my Jeep friends call my 100 a whale, a tuner, orca, a boat....I just laugh. It doesn't bother me.
Then, when I have my 80 they call it the same names. Doesn't bother me as I know both trucks are whales, boats, and orcas compared to their Jeeps (that by the way....do things we can't even dream of in our 80-200's).

Phil: If I owned a 98-99 and was planning on 4-wheeling it, I'd add the ARB front for preventative maintance/stranding.

Comparing the front locker to the 80's head gasket problem are two different things. I don't think too many 80's HG's have blown on the trail leaving them stranded. On the other hand we're hearing about 100's front diffs going on a regular basis. If a HG blows on my LX450 I'll fix it. To do it now for the heck of it (just in case) makes little sense to me.

Dude, I don't even own an 80 anymore.

Also, bear in mind that the wagons can do many things that the Jeeps can only dream of, like carrying four passengers and 500 pounds of gear without having to resort to loading it up on a roof and/or bumper rack, causing it to tip over backwards on steep climbs due to the unstable short wheelbase. Also, they don't break like Jeeps. The 80 is the best compromise out there IMHO that combines extreme wheeling ability, extreme durability, and good load carrying capability. No Heep, even a Cherokee, meets those requirements, no matter what fantasy land you live in.

edit: But I'm not a brand snob. Give me a good Nissan Patrol GU over the 80 and I'd be perfectly happy! Just as tough, carries about the same amount of people and cargo, and wheels just as hard if not harder.

I will take your 80 and raise you a 120!

lol..could not resist

198??? I don't think there is a 198 model :p

I will join that group over the weekend...thanks for the invitation!

Just curious, do you like the cooler box, or would you rather it be a conventional center console for stuff ??

One shouldn't be comparing a wrangler to a 80,100, or 200. It's a completely different type of vehicle. A more valid comparison is how would a stock HZJ74 (2-door 70 series w/ FRP top, OEM fr/rr diff locks, rear barn doors) fare against a stock Wrangler or Rubicon?

Toyota makes the LC in 3 wheelbases: short (2-door 70-series now replaced by the 2-door prado in most of the world), medium (prado & 70-series), and long (200 series).

Ah, I see your logic, when you said 120, you didn't mean a 120 Series...

OK, I'll see your 200 and raise you a... -122! ;)

I would go for the regular box.
Seems like the cooler takes lots space I presumed for insulation.
I rather use an Igloo.

Unfortunately I think the cooler box is part of the Upgrade pkg group that seem to be coming on a high majority of LC's. That's the kind of thing that really bothers me on these "pkgs". They include things like the cooler box that I would never want as a stand alone option. They force feed it to you whether you want it or not !!

Huh, what does a 80, 100, Jeep or Unimog got to do with the differences between a 08 TLC and LX???

The best way to compare the interiors is actually to go check it out in person, and put your butt in the seats. Photos never tell the whole story, and even on the pics I can spot a huge number of differences in controls and layout between the 2.
